‘The U.S will continue its support for higher education in Vietnam’

Hanoi, September 16 – Assistant to the U.S Secretary of Commerce Suresh Kumar had a talk with lecturers and students of Institute of Business Administration, FPT University.

The talk took place at the Conference Hall, Institute of Business Administration (a subsidiary of FPT University), which theme was: “US - Vietnam trade relations and opportunity to work together”. FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh hosted a reception for the U.S delegation.

FPT students had an open talk with the Assistant to the U.S Secretary of Commerce about US- Vietnam trade relations and the U.S government’s support for Vietnamese students.

According to Mr. Kumar, Vietnam had shown great determination to develop private economy and balance economic interests with environmental protection. Vietnamese government had realized the importance of education and foreign investors in promoting socio-economic renovation, R&D and knowledge industries.

He also revealed that within the framework of President Obama’s initiative on export growth, the U.S. expects to promote exports to Vietnam to double its exporting value, which would create profit and employment for not only the American but also its partner countries including Vietnam.

"If Vietnam needs capital resources, U.S enterprises are willing to invest as long as you provide us with facilitating business environment where foreign investment is effectively encouraged and brings profit to both Vietnam and the U.S.", he analyzed.

He hoped that Vietnam would facilitate and encourage private sector and foreign investor and showed his belief in a “bright future” of US-Vietnam economic cooperation.

Pointing out that economic and commercial relations were foundation for US- Vietnam relationship, he believed that the cooperation would help both countries to tackle challenges relating to employment, environment, energy and other socio-economic issues.

Answering student’s questions on higher education cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam, he emphasized: “We are moving forwards to promote cooperation relation and build a US - style world class university model among universities of the two countries. However, U.S universities hope that Vietnamese government will facilitate education environment and allow them to work independently in Vietnam”.

The talk brought FPT student a better understanding about the US- Vietnam trade relation.
