FPT’s profit in the first quarter of 2009 increases 29.2%
In the difficult and challenging economic situation, FPT has ended the first quarter of 2009 with satisfactory results.

The net sales of the corporation in the first quarter hit over 3,929 billion VNDs and achieved 115.02% of the planned target. Earnings before tax increased 29.2%, which represented a 56.67% increase in comparison with the plan and were over 391 billion VNDs. Earnings after dividend tax of the parent company were over 219 billion VNDs, which showed an 18% rise when compared with the same period in 2008. Basic earnings per share increased about 16% and were 1577 VNDs per share.

Having contributed to that satisfactory result is the continuous growth in revenues and profits of main business fields of the corporation. They are: System Integration, Software Export, Telecoms, Education and Distribution of IT Products.
These business fields have achieved the planned goals in terms of sales at the rate of 104.2%; 101.1%; 115.4%; 95% and 119.3% respectively. Earnings before tax in the first quarter of these fields continued to grow at 33.1%; 3.7%; 50.8%; 32.7% and 2.8% respectively.

For 2009, FPT planned to achieve a revenue of 17,078 billion VNDs, a 1.62% growth in comparison with 2008 and a profit of 1,451 billion VNDs – a 17.01% increase.
Some outstanding activities of FPT in the first quarter of 2009:
Changes in high-ranking personnel:
- Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam became the new CEO of FPT.
- Mr. Truong Gia Binh was no longer the CEO but still kept the position of Chairman of Board of Director.
- Mr. Phan Duc Trung replaced Mr. Lê Quang Tiến to become Finance Director of FPT.
Achievements and awards:
- On April 24, FPT got 2009 Sao Khue Award for three candidate products and these three products also received the titles Preeminent Software and the ranking of 4 stars. The Visky technology group received 2009 “Sao Khue” award for 2 products - Vitalk and the learning website www.violympic.vn. Vitalk was also granted the title Preeminent Software and the ranking of 5 stars. FPT University won a “Sao Khue” award (4 stars) for the IT Training Service.
- On April 14, at the awarding ceremony of Vietnam IT – Communication Prize organized by Ministry of Information and Communication, FPT Software won three prizes: The best software enterprise, The highest revenue and The best management procedure. FPT University got the prizes The best enterprise in providing services of training IT human resources and The enterprise having trained the most IT human resources.
IT - Telecoms
- On April 13, Visky technology group sponsored by FPT officially introduced ViHD software allowing people to watch high-definition videos basing on peer-to-peer technique at www.vihd.vn
- On April 08, FPT Distribution officially became the first official distributor of SonicWall products in Vietnamese market.
- On April 08, FPT Software signed a contract providing software services with the worth of 203,000 USDs to the American company Unify within 3 years.
- In March and April, FPT Telecom successively founded branches in Cần Thơ, Đà Nẵng and Nghệ An, realizing the strategy of expanding the network infrastructure-covered area nationwide.
- On March 31, FPT Mobilephone Distribution Company Ltd. was licensed to operate as a subsidiary company of FPT Mobile.
- On March 26, General Statistics Office and the co-bidders FPT - Top Image Systems (TiS) signed a contract to provide and deploy solutions to gather and process data for 2009 General Census .
- In March, FPT Telecom officially deployed the new cost package using Triple play technology – integrating 3 services: Internet access; fixed telephones and IP TV on one connection.
- In February, FPT Telecom successfully deployed the project of experimenting the mobile technology WiMAX with the frequency of 2.3 Ghz
- On February 27, FPT-IS announced the free upgrade of the interest-support function for the banks using the core-banking software Smartbank of FPT-IS.
- On February 20, Oracle presented the commemorative medal of Application Partner of the year to FPT-IS, affirming FPT-IS as the biggest partner of the company in Vietnam in the application field.
- On February 06, Representative office of FPT-IS in Singapore was opened.
- In February, ViMua announced vacancies for 5000 consultants
- In February, Public Finance Solution Company (under FPT-IS) signed the third stage contract with General Department of Taxation to deploy department-level IT applications for reforming branch-level tax management in big tax branches , and signed the contract “Building the integration software for Customs” with Vietnam Customs.
- On February 19, FPT-IS sponsored the conference and exhibition Banking Cambodia 2009 in Cambodia.
- In January, FPT Software started to deploy FSpace lab. FSpace lab was established with the objective of mastering space technology, serving the benefit of FPT and society.
Education and Training
- On April 16, FPT University, Vietnam Association of Young Scientists and Engineers (VAYSE), Vietnam Association for Information Processing and Genetics Society of Vietnam founded Bio-Informatics Branch as the first step in combining IT and Biotechnology in Vietnam.
- On April 11, FPT University signed the contract of training hi-tech human resources for Hitachi Software Engineering and Quang Trung Software Park.
- On February 25, FPT University announced the first financial programme for students in Vietnam called “Invest with you”. Within this programme, in 2009, FPT would use a 10-billion-VND fund to pay tuition fees for students with good learning capacities and in difficult family conditions.
- On February 07, FPT-Aptech celebrated 10 years of training cooperation in Vietnam. This system has trained 50,000 people majoring in software programming, network management and multimedia design.
- FPT University and the Library Centre of VNU signed a cooperation agreement of exchanging libraries. In addition, FPT University decided to buy an electronic library with nearly 10,000 books to serve students’ need of online consulting.
Culture and Society
- On April 15, FPT Corporation officially launched the award “Swallow 2009” to honour groups and individuals who have had excellent voluntary charitable activities in Vietnam in 2008.
- On April 1, FPT donated 100 million VNDs to the the fund of the victims of Agent Orange on the concert night commemorating the death of the late musician Trịnh Công Sơn with the title “ Mum – The lonely wing”.
- FPT co-organized and sponsored “2009 Japanese Cheeery Blosssom Festival in Vietnam” from April 10 to April 12.
- On March 21, FPT cooperated with GFO (Gentle Fund Organization) – a Singaporean non-profit organization to to open a Learning Centre at Diệu Viên Pagoda in Thừa Thiên Huế Province. FPT contributed a computer lab with 18 computers and 01 host computer to help poor children who are fond of learning in Huế to approach information technology.
- FPT sponsored 100 million VNDs for 2009 Fireworks Competition with the theme “The Resounding of Sông Hàn (Hàn River)” organized on 27 and 28 March in Đà Nẵng.
Real Estate:
- After the construction of the building foundation, on April 4, 2009, the starting ceremony for the construction of FPT Đà Nẵng Building (Period 1) in Massda Industrial Zone was held at the head office of FPT Software Company, 5th floor– Vinh Trung Plaza, Da Nang.
