On October 27, an Austrian delegation led by Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Philipp Agathonos visited F-Town 3 in Ho Chi Minh City to explore potential cooperation in railway technology. Following the meeting, FPT and the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) are expected to continue working together to develop specific cooperation proposals.
The Austrian delegation included Philipp Agathonos, Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam; Stefan Schauer, Senior Research Scientist at AIT; Florian J. Beranek, Vice President of the Central and Eastern European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (CEEC); Herwig Neuper, Austrian Commercial Counsellor in Vietnam; and Dao Ha Trung, Honorary Consul of Austria in Ho Chi Minh City.
Representing FPT Corporation were Phan Thanh Son, Director of Railway Strategy at FPT Railway Mobility Technology (FPT RMT); Le Thi To Uyen, Business Development Director at FPT RMT; and Oscar Wong, Chief Technology Officer at FPT RMT.
During the visit, the delegation toured the F-Town 3 campus and held discussions with FPT representatives on technologies supporting railway management and operations, including railway signaling and train control systems, maintenance management, cybersecurity, and systems integration.

According to AIT, it is Austria’s largest research and technology organization, employing more than 1,600 people. The institute focuses on two main research areas: developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure and advancing digital transformation across industry and society. Its research activities span transportation, energy, automation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
In the railway sector, AIT has experience conducting joint research with the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Key research areas include analyzing railway vehicle data to predict failures and maintenance needs, developing highly reliable 5G communication systems for railway infrastructure, optimizing railway operations, and automating train shunting operations.
Austria is also home to a well-developed railway technology industry in Europe. According to the Austrian trade promotion agency ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, the country’s exports of railway vehicles, track equipment, and signaling equipment reached approximately EUR 1.97 billion in 2025.
Representatives from both sides discuss potential cooperation opportunities in railway technology.
Austria’s experience in railway technology research and development, together with AIT’s technical expertise, provides a foundation for FPT to explore potential cooperation in areas aligned with Vietnam’s railway technology development priorities. The two sides will continue discussions and work toward developing suitable cooperation proposals in the coming period.
Established in late 2025, FPT RMT is one of FPT Corporation’s strategic technology units, focusing on the research and development of solutions for railway systems and intelligent transportation. Engagement with international research organizations such as AIT aligns with FPT RMT’s strategy to strengthen its technological capabilities and expand international cooperation.
