Mastering strategic technologies

FPT established a Strategic Technology Steering Committee to focus investments on five key areas: Quantum AI, cybersecurity, UAVs, railway technology, and data. The Group also inaugurated the FPT Fornix HCM02 Data Center with a capacity of 3,600 racks; launched an advanced semiconductor testing and packaging plant; and opened a 3,000 m² R&D center in Da Nang. In addition, FPT signed a USD 256 million AI-driven digital transformation contract with a leading Asian energy group and was recognized among the Top 40 IT services companies in Asia.

Shaping a core technology strategy and expanding global presence

FPT announced its strategy focused on five core areas including AI, semiconductors, automotive digital technology, digital transformation, and green transformation, forming the foundation for long-term growth. The Corporation also entered a comprehensive partnership with NVIDIA to build two AI factories in Vietnam and Japan, enhancing infrastructure capabilities and enabling global AI service delivery. In the same year, FPT completed its first M&A in Japan by acquiring NAC, expanding its presence and strengthening its position in this strategic market.

Ascending to new heights trailblazing to uncharted

FPT developed 31 models to advance Project 06 across sectors and localities, while operating Hanoi’s public administrative system with over 2.8 million processed cases, accelerating national digital transformation. In the same year, FPT completed M&A and investments in Intertec International, Cardinal Peak, AOSIS, and Landing AI; expanded semiconductor partnerships with Silvaco and TreSemi; established FPT Automotive in automotive software; and was granted two AI patents in Japan and the U.S.

Mastering core technologies, addressing national challenges, joining the billion-dollar group

FPT established FPT Semiconductor and launched Vietnam’s first semiconductor chip line, marking a step toward mastering core technologies. In parallel, FPT collaborated with the Ministry of Public Security to implement Project 06, developing e identification and anti spoofing solutions for chip based citizen ID cards and contributing to national digital transformation. FPT was also granted a U.S. patent for 3D point cloud processing and joined the global billion dollar enterprise group by surpassing USD 1 billion in overseas IT services revenue.

Addressing national challenges and accelerating M&A to enhance service capabilities

FPT helped resolve the overload of the HoSE trading system by deploying a new system within a short timeframe and increasing capacity to 3-5 million orders per day, contributing to market stability and liquidity. In the same year, FPT established FPT Digital, strengthening its end‑to‑end digital transformation capabilities from consulting to implementation; acquired Base.vn to accelerate digital transformation for hundreds of thousands of SMEs; and invested in Intertec International to enhance its global service delivery capabilities.

Enhancing capabilities in emerging technologies

In 2020, FPT established FPT Smart Cloud with the mission of creating a launchpad for enterprises to become digital enterprises through innovation in technology and products. Leveraging a strong technology foundation and a diverse AI and cloud ecosystem, the Company became a partner to over 1,000 enterprises. In the same year, FPT became the first strategic partner in Southeast Asia of Mila, one of the world’s leading AI research institutes, strengthening its AI research capabilities and global scale deployment.

Elevating capabilities with two comprehensive digital transformation contracts in Vietnam and Europe

In 2019, FPT signed two comprehensive digital transformation consulting contracts with Minh Phu Group, Vietnam’s leading shrimp producer and processor, and DPDGroup, Europe’s second-largest parcel delivery company. For Minh Phu, the project focused on optimizing operational processes, reducing costs, and enhancing production capacity. For DPDGroup, FPT provided consulting to build a data-driven operating model.

Acquiring 90% of a U.S. technology consulting firm and launching akaBot

FPT acquired a 90% stake in Intellinet, a leading U.S.-based technology consulting company, enhancing its capability to deliver more comprehensive, higher-value technology services to clients, particularly in digital transformation projects. In the same year, FPT launched akaBot, an intelligent automation platform integrating RPA, OCR, IDP, and Agentic AI, enabling business process automation and saving up to 80% of processing time and operating costs. The solution has been deployed for more than 4,500 customers across 21 countries.

Launching FPT.AI and winning the largest government IT contract in Myanmar

FPT launched FPT.AI, an artificial intelligence platform, the only platform providing a suite of solutions to help enterprises optimize processes, develop new business models, enhance operational efficiency, drive sales and marketing, and strengthen customer engagement, with deployment on cloud and on premises. In the same year, after outperforming multiple international bidders, FPT won a USD 11.3 million contract with Myanmar’s Ministry of Planning and Finance, the largest IT project in the country’s government sector.

Becoming GE’s first partner in ASEAN and reaching 10,000 software engineers

FPT became General Electric’s first partner in ASEAN to deploy GE Predix, the world’s leading IIoT platform, in strategic markets across industrial, manufacturing, and public service sectors. In the same year, FPT’s workforce serving IT services for foreign markets reached 10,000, comparable to the Top 15 largest software companies in India, demonstrating its capability to scale and deliver large-scale projects globally.

Top 300 Must-Watch Companies in Asia

FPT was named by Nikkei Asian Review in the Nikkei Asia 300 list, which recognizes around 300 must-watch companies in Asia based on market capitalization, growth potential, and strengths such as technology and business models. FPT was the only IT company from Vietnam included in the list. Nikkei assessed FPT as Vietnam’s largest IT company, operating across most key segments of the industry, with the capability to deliver services to multiple international markets, particularly Japan.

Affirming capabilities through international M&A and deployment of critical IT systems in Vietnam

FPT completed its first overseas M&A by acquiring RWE IT Slovakia, a subsidiary of the leading European energy company, RWE. The deal secured tens of millions of USD in contracts and introduced the “bestshore” model, combining domestic and international resources. This also marked the first outbound M&A deal in Vietnam’s IT industry. In parallel, FPT implemented an electronic ticketing system for Vietnam Railways, one of the largest IT outsourcing contracts in Vietnam.

Investing in retail chain expansion and e-Commerce

FPT expanded its FPT Shop retail chain nationwide, rapidly achieving coverage across all 63 provinces and cities. In 2017, in line with its strategic focus on core businesses, FPT reduced its ownership stake in FPT Retail to 47%. In parallel, FPT strengthened its e-commerce presence by launching Sendo.vn under a B2B2C model, integrating logistics and payment services, and acquiring 123mua.vn in 2014 to expand its scale and ecosystem.

Signing Vietnam’s largest ERP contract

FPT implemented an ERP project for Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) valued at USD 12.6 million, the largest ERP system in Vietnam’s IT sector at the time. The project was delivered on a turnkey basis, covering both infrastructure and software, with modules for financial management, procurement, inventory, and downstream petroleum operations. It spanned 111 deployment sites, serving nearly 1,500 users across 41 subsidiaries nationwide, reflecting its scale and complexity.

Prime contractor for a national-scale tax project

FPT was the prime contractor for the personal income tax management software project valued at USD 15.5 million, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia at the time, with the participation of SAP, Accenture, and Ernst & Young. Three years later, in 2011, FPT won a VND 260 billion contract to deploy IT infrastructure supporting the management of 15 million taxpayers. This was the first centralized processing system of the General Department of Taxation, large in scale and highly complex in technology integration.

Strengthening its position in software outsourcing, establishing a university, and listing on the stock exchange

FPT became the prime contractor in Malaysia with a USD 6.5 million software contract for Petronas, marking a step forward in software outsourcing. To address the talent gap, FPT developed its training system and established FPT University, the first corporate-founded university to be licensed, providing high-quality human resources for the IT sector. In the same year, FPT was listed on HOSE, becoming a blue-chip stock with a strong dividend policy, highly regarded by investors and financial institutions.

Affirming its position on the global digital technology map

FPT became the first Vietnamese IT company to establish a legal entity in Japan, marking a step forward in its globalization strategy. At the same time, the Corporation was granted investment licenses at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park (Hanoi) and Saigon Hi-Tech Park (Ho Chi Minh City), laying the foundation for developing a nationwide network of education complexes and software parks.

ISO 9001 laid the foundation for a comprehensive management system

FPT’s software outsourcing strategy requires compliance with international quality standards. In 2000, FPT became the first IT company in Southeast Asia to achieve ISO 9001:1994 certification. In 2004, FPT was the first Vietnamese enterprise to attain CMM Level 5, awarded by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Building on this foundation, FPT developed and registered its comprehensive management system in 2005. To date, FPT holds most key certifications required for its business operations.

Globalization with software outsourcing as a strategic focus

A decade after its establishment, despite being Vietnam’s largest IT company, FPT faced the risk of stagnation without new growth drivers. At the 1998 Diên Hồng Conference, FPT set globalization as its strategic direction, with software outsourcing as the spearhead. Starting with no experience or brand recognition, FPT rose to the top 40 IT services companies in Asia and became Vietnam’s leading software outsourcing company in terms of workforce and revenue.

Contributing to a breakthrough in Internet services

In 1996, FPT operated the Trí tuệ Việt Nam community network with over 10,000 members, creating a new environment for information exchange despite lacking international connectivity. In 1997, when Vietnam connected to the Internet, FPT became one of the first four licensed Internet service providers, breaking the monopoly and driving a breakthrough in Internet services. Building on its experience with TTVN, FPT contributed to improving Internet access infrastructure.

Entering distribution, bringing new technologies to Vietnam

FPT entered the computer distribution business in the early 1990s and quickly became a major supplier. However, due to the U.S. embargo, transactions had to be conducted through a third party. In 1994, following the lifting of the embargo, and with a strong determination to engage directly with leading manufacturers, FPT proactively approached companies such as IBM, Compaq, and Hewlett-Packard, becoming IBM’s first partner in Vietnam and paving the way for the development of a professional technology distribution sector.

Selecting IT as the core business sector

FPT shifted toward an IT driven development path through a contract to supply computers to the Soviet Academy of Sciences and was officially renamed the Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT). In late 1990, FPT signed its first commercial software contract, a reservation and booking system for Vietnam Airlines. FPT subsequently participated in major IT application projects across key sectors, including banking, public finance, telecommunications, and power.

Founded amid Vietnam’s Đổi Mới reforms in 1986, a period that promoted new economic models and entrepreneurship, FPT stands as a representative enterprise of that era. Established in 1988 by 13 scientists with no initial capital or assets, FPT set out to build a strong new kind of organization grounded in science, technology, and innovation, contributing to national prosperity while creating the best conditions for each member to fully develop their talents.
