Mr. Tran Phu Son, Business Development Director of FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation, attended the seminar “Vietnam’s Semiconductor Industry – The Driving Force and Foundation for National Development,” held on January 15 in Hanoi.

The seminar was part of the 6th National Forum on Vietnam Digital Technology Enterprises, themed “Mastering Digital Technology, Leading Vietnam’s Digital Transformation with Vietnamese Digital Technology Enterprises.”

At the seminar session, Mr. Tran Phu Son of FPT Corporation shared insights on the development of next-generation electronics. According to Mr. Tran Phu Son, export turnover is forecast to reach USD 160 billion by 2025, laying the foundation for a breakthrough in the semiconductor industry. The potential of Vietnam’s semiconductor sector lies in attracting FDI investment, developing high-tech infrastructure, and meeting the strong growth demand for smart devices, EVs, and IoT.

In this context, FPT’s semiconductor strategy focuses on developing power chip lines (Power ICs, Power Management ICs) to meet practical demands, create value for customers, and promote Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.

FPT also expands its semiconductor design and production outsourcing services, leveraging its international customer network to provide chip design outsourcing services.

At the same time, the Corporation invests in training and developing high-quality human resources in preparation for the long-term growth of the semiconductor industry.

For sustainable development, FPT promotes R&D in next-generation electronic devices by integrating AI and semiconductors, developing IoT and AI-on-Edge devices based on advanced semiconductor platforms.

During discussions with the FPT representative at the forum, experts and representatives from domestic and international enterprises shared their experiences on mastering and developing 5G “Make in Vietnam” chips (Viettel), developing the next-generation electronics industry alongside the semiconductor industry, investing in and developing digital technology infrastructure in the new era, advancing AI applications, and building a high-quality human resource pool.

Delegates also made recommendations for Vietnam to seize opportunities arising from the global semiconductor supply chain shift, outlining directions and support measures for semiconductor industry development in Vietnam, as well as solutions for building a high-quality workforce for the semiconductor sector. They emphasized the importance of investing in research and development as part of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development strategy. The insights and discussions at the seminar highlighted the semiconductor industry’s crucial role in shaping the digital economy and reaffirming Vietnam’s position in the global value chain.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director General of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Industry, Ministry of Information and Communications, stated that with the national semiconductor industry development strategy, the Party and the State have outlined orientations and actions to create the most favorable environment for enterprises through the study, amendment, and improvement of special preferential investment mechanisms and policies regarding land, taxation, and finance to attract both domestic and foreign investment in the semiconductor sector.

In addition, the State prioritizes allocating resources to promote and develop a modern, synchronized digital infrastructure; supports investment in scientific research activities; and establishes national key semiconductor laboratories and research and testing centers.

These preferential mechanisms and policies for the semiconductor industry have been concretized and incorporated into several laws passed by the National Assembly in recent years.

The semiconductor industry operates based on a globally distributed supply chain, with stages such as design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing spanning multiple countries and closely interconnected. This is the industry in which Vietnam aims to become an important link in the global supply chain. Accordingly, Vietnam prioritizes and implements special incentive policies, along with streamlined investment procedures, to attract leading global technology corporations to Vietnam—not only as a consumer market but also as a reliable partner and an ideal destination for research, production, and expansion.

Director General Nguyen Khac Lich also emphasized that, with the orientation and strategic role of the semiconductor sector, Vietnam has officially issued the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam’s Semiconductor Industry to 2030 with a Vision to 2050—laying the foundation, direction, and vision for the rapid and sustainable development of the industry, aiming to make Vietnam an important link in the global semiconductor supply chain.

The strategy outlines Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development roadmap to 2030 and vision to 2050 under the formula: C = SET + 1 (Chip, Specialized, Electronics, Talent, + Vietnam), representing a strategic and comprehensive approach. It underscores the importance of developing high-quality human resources, building a strong electronic industry ecosystem, focusing on specialized products with high added value, and, above all, affirming Vietnam’s position on the global semiconductor industry map.
