Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan meets with FPT Japan employees.

On the morning of October 2, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan and a delegation from the Ministry visited FPT Japan headquarters in Tokyo and met with FPT employees.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Corporation, expressed his appreciation that the Minister and delegation had taken the time to visit FPT during a busy working trip to Japan.

Mr. Khoa shared that FPT is currently present in 31 countries and territories with approximately 88,000 employees, including more than 10,000 international employees representing 79 nationalities. In the first eight months of the year, FPT maintained growth momentum, recording revenue of VND 35.408 trillion and profit before tax of VND 7.648 trillion, up 13.5% and 17.5% year-on-year, respectively. Japan remains one of FPT’s key international markets.

FPT is entering a strategic transition from a technology services provider to a company developing strategic technology products and platforms. FPT aims to master critical technologies and contribute to Vietnam’s aspiration for development driven by science, technology, and innovation.

Mr. Khoa also expressed the hope that the Ministry of Science and Technology would continue to support Vietnamese technology companies in strengthening their global presence and enhancing their position and competitiveness in international markets.

Mr. Do Van Khac, CEO of FPT Japan, FPT Corporation, reports to the delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Representing FPT Japan, CEO Do Van Khac said the company currently has approximately 5,500 employees in Japan and contributes around 45% of the global revenue of FPT’s technology services business. Alongside expanding collaboration with Japanese enterprises across multiple sectors, FPT Japan is increasing investment in strategic technologies such as AI and semiconductors, which are expected to become important growth drivers in the years ahead.

Mr. Khac noted that when winning international customers, FPT is not only creating business opportunities for the company but also helping strengthen the value and recognition of the Vietnamese brand. Every success in Japan contributes to demonstrating the capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises and building greater confidence among partners in Vietnam’s technology and talent.

Minister Vu Hai Quan highly appreciated FPT’s achievements in Japan and the company’s broader journey of global expansion. From initial projects, FPT has progressively expanded collaboration with partners, moved into co-creation, and set the ambition to master technology, establishing a strong position in one of the world’s most demanding markets.

FPT representatives receive a gift from Minister Vu Hai Quan.

Drawing on his own experience, Minister Vu Hai Quan recalled studying information technology when the field was still relatively new in Vietnam, followed by many years of research and work overseas. Inspired by his academic advisor’s encouragement to learn from the world and bring knowledge back to serve the country, he later became involved in some of Vietnam’s early AI research efforts.

According to the Minister, trust and credibility have been fundamental to FPT’s success. By consistently delivering well on the earliest assignments, however small, FPT gradually earned customer trust and opened the door to greater opportunities.

“In Japan, trust and credibility matter above all else. By doing the first assignments well, a company can gradually build both brand reputation and customer trust. I strongly agree with FPT’s journey from software services to co-creation and technology mastery. This is the right direction,” Minister Vu Hai Quan said.

On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Minister Vu Hai Quan congratulated FPT and affirmed that the Ministry would continue to provide strategic guidance and support, helping the company leverage technological strengths, enhance competitiveness, and further strengthen Vietnam’s presence in global markets.

The meeting provided an opportunity for FPT to share development priorities for the next stage while also reflecting the attention of government agencies toward Vietnamese technology companies operating internationally, with the broader goal of advancing innovation and strengthening Vietnam’s technology position globally.

On the same day, the Vietnam–Japan Digital Technology Forum 2026 was held in Tokyo under the theme “Vietnam–Japan Digital Synergy: Co-Creating the Future with AI and Deep Tech.”

The event brought together more than 250 leaders from Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises and technology organizations to discuss AI, robotics, UAVs, digital infrastructure, and deep technologies.

Speaking at the forum, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, Chairman of VINASA and CEO of FPT Corporation, said Vietnam–Japan technology relations are entering an opportunity to transition toward a new model of cooperation.

Rather than primarily receiving requirements from Japanese companies and developing products accordingly, Vietnamese enterprises can become more deeply involved throughout the value chain, from identifying problems and conducting research to design and commercialization.

Mr. Khoa said combining Japan’s strengths in precision engineering, management, and supply chains with the software, technology, and algorithm capabilities of Vietnamese engineers could create jointly owned intellectual property. Such products would not be limited to serving a single customer or market but could subsequently be scaled globally.

Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan speaks at the Vietnam–Japan Digital Technology Forum 2026.

At the forum, Minister Vu Hai Quan highlighted FPT while discussing the development of Vietnamese technology companies in Japan.

The Minister outlined four areas of cooperation: modernizing core technology systems; jointly researching, designing, and testing AI, robotics, and UAV technologies; training AI engineers based on enterprise demand; and bringing jointly developed products from Vietnamese and Japanese companies into global markets and supply chains.

Drawing on experience working with Japanese customers, Mr. Nguyen Huu Long, CEO of FPT Smart Cloud Japan, FPT Corporation, said one of the key challenges today is integrating AI into existing technology systems.

According to Mr. Long, the cooperation model can evolve from “Japan defines, Vietnam develops” to “Discover, Build and Scale Together” — jointly identifying problems, building solutions, and scaling them. This approach enables Vietnamese technology companies to participate more deeply in the value chain rather than focusing solely on development based on predefined requirements.

In addition to panel discussions, the forum featured more than 100 business matching sessions between Vietnamese and Japanese companies, focusing on smart factories, robotics, UAVs, and semiconductors.

From providing technology resources to jointly conducting research and creating products, Vietnam–Japan technology cooperation is opening up a new direction. For FPT, this also represents the next step in the company’s journey in Japan: moving beyond delivering for customers to creating new value together with them.
