Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam will officially take the position of General Director from Mr Truong Gia Binh next month. He will continue to further develop the company that his predecessor has worked hard to build for 20 years.

December 13, 2006 FPT officially lists on Hochiminh City Securities Trading Center
The Corporation has had nearly 10 thousand employees, tens of branches and subsidiaries, with the average growth rate in revenue reaching 50%. As the present General Director’s description, his 20 year company has 5 highlights: growth, in-step with the internet age, software export; innovating education; and FPT spirit and culture.
Speedy Growth
Established in 1988, FPT was founded by 13 passionate young person who wished to make a life of wealth and prosperity in the country’s reform.
In 2002, FPT was equitized to become the Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology with total capital of 20 billion VND.
Right after its equitization, in 2003, FPT set out its targets under which 6 subsidiaries were established, including: FPT Distribution; FPT Mobile; FPT Information System; FPT Telecom – formerly FPT Online Exchange; FPT Software and FPT Software Solutions.
Three years later, on December 13 of 2006, FPT was officially listed by the Hochiminh City Stock Exchange , a turning point in its two decade history.
Right after the historic gong, bidding price for FPT shares went up to 400,000 VND/share and FPT instantly became a “blue chip” on the Vietnamese securities market.
In 2007, FPT opened operations into many different, non-traditional areas such as real estate, finance and banking, training, and retail. In sync with these efforts is the establishment of companies in respective new areas: Hoa Lac IP Hi-tech Development Company; FPT Real Estate; FPT Investment Fund; FPT Security and FPT Retail.
In early 2008, TienPhongBank, of which FPT is among the 3 largest shareholder, received its business permit and officially went into operations. FPT University was also established in the same year with the aim of becoming the largest information technology university in the world.
Now in its second decade, FPT’s businesses have all born fruits. General Director of FPT, Mr. Truong Gia Binh once said: “FPT is always the No. 1 in 9 out of 10 traditional business operation areas, far ahead of its competitors”.
The tireless efforts of its chief architect and more than 9000 employees have made FPT the No. 1 information technology – telecommunication corporation in Vietnam. UNDP ranks it in the 2007 top 20 Vietnamese enterprise with the largest capital.
Over the past 10 years, under the leadership of captain Truong Gia Binh, FPT’s human resource have grew 22 folds, revenue have grew 25 folds, and most notable, profits have grew 137 folds.
Of special note, in 2008, FPT’s revenue breached the 1 billion USD mark, realizing General Director Trương Gia Bình’s lifelong dream.
Shining bright for 20 years
FPT’s achievements today first and foremost belongs to its employees. But in step with them, are the executives, the determination of the Board of Management, daring to pioneer new territories.
Behind every success, every development, there will always be the marks that Mr. Binh left behind. FPT’s achievements can be summed up in the following areas:

Integrated Information System . For many years, FPT Information System have taken part in the construction of Vietnam’s national information technology infrastructures, its clients include: the Ministry of Finance, General Tax Bureau, the Treasury, Vietcombank, BIDV.
FPT IS is currently the leading integrated system provider in Vietnam, renowned as FPT’s “iron fist”.
The merging of FPT’s Software Solutions Center, and ERP Center into FPT Information System in 2007 have strengthened company potentials, enabling FPT IS to handle projects worth up to 50 million USD.
In mid-2008, FPT IS became a corporation with 7 subsidiaries, each with their own operation lines.
By the end of October 2008, FPT IS won the bid for the Equipment Purchase and Personal Income Tax Management Solution package worth 15 million USD. The bid marks a milestone for FPT IS and also FPT, proof that the Corporation is now ready for major multimillion dollar projects.
Distribution . General Director of FPT Corporation Truong Gia Binh once said: “FPT Distribution and FPT Mobile have made power marks on the information technology and telecommunication map. They not only make huge contributions in revenues but also to strengthening FPT’s image”.
For 5 consecutive years, FPT Distribution has been FPT’s leading company in terms of revenue. The company has continually one-by-one broke its own revenue records, 100 million USD, 200 million USD, 300 million USD and 500 million USD.
FPT Distribution currently has the largest distribution network in Vienam, with over 956 agents in 53/64 cities and provinces. It is the trusted partner of over 60 famous brand names, including: IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft, HP, Nokia, Toshiba, Oracle, Samsung, Cisco, Apple, Intel, Symantec, NEC etc.
As official distributor and provider of warranty service for Samsung and Motorola mobile phones, FPT Distribution has brought in major revenues for FPT since 2003.
Telecommunications . The establishment of FPT Telecom was in large parts thanks to the tenacity of Mr. Trương Gia Bình, believing that the internet is the one invention that has the largest and deepest impact on mankind.
Over 10 years since its inception, FPT Telecom has proven itself a fully capable telecommunication service provider in Vietnam, permits such as IXP, ISP, OSP, ICP are proof.
Within just 3 years, as compared to VNPT’s 60 years, FPT Telecom has brought its telecommunications infrastructure coverage to nearly 100% of Hanoi and HCMC. The company’s growth is over 70%/annum and has quickly become one of the top contributors to FPT Corporation’s profits.
In 2008, FPT Telecom became a Corporation with 6 subsidiaries.
FPT Telecom aims to become the new generation content provider, the leader in digital convergence for IP platform multi-service integration, set new standards for the telecommunications sector as well as provide one gate electronic services: “FPT leading in Digital Convergence”. In the words of General Director Trương Gia Bình, other exploits awaits FPT.
Software export . This area of operation has received much of FPT’s attention.
For ten years, from 1988 – 1998, efforts in software production failed. In face of India’s success, Trương Gia Bình decided to change direction to software export, with one fateful line to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam: “You get a team and try it”.
Ten years later, FPT Software’s revenues from software export grew 90 folds.
FPT Software, from just 17 programmers, now has over 2000 programmers, and is the largest software company in terms of human resource in Southeast Asia.
The path to globalization is becoming clearer everyday for FPT Software. The company currently has representative offices in Japan, Singapore, Europe (France), Malaysia, Australia and the US.
In the press conference announcing FPT’s business results in the first half of 2008, Deputy General Director of FPT Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc proudly said: “For the first time in many years, profits from the services and software sector accounts for more than 70% of FPT’s total profits”.
Education . FPT University is been the undying passion of Mr. Truong Gia Binh, who has tirelessly developed FPT University’s Creed when it first received its permit from the Prime Minister in September 2006.
With the motto “Dream of Innovation”, teachers, students and even parents are constantly faced with the demand for creativity and innovation.
FPT University is a first-class learning environment, providing information technology training according to American ACM standards, Japanese ITSS, and striving to achieve ABET standards, with textbooks in English or Japanese.
FPT University aims to become the largest information technology higher education training institution in the world, with roughly 40 thousand students, operating as a new generation University – orientation university, the university of the Internet era.
No one can accurately gauge the impact Bill Gates has had on Mircosoft, and no one can quantify the successes the Chief Architect has brought to FPT, for he has been an integral part of the company during its first 2 decades.
Relegating his duties as from April 15th 2009, he will be stepping into the “2.0 phase”. He will be devoting his time to human resource training, and participating in Visky projects. The man sure knows how to keep himself busy!
