The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued Circular No. 38, with effect from March 1st, 2014 amending some articles of Circular No. 46 prescribing the training and testing of drivers and grant of road vehicle driver licenses, under which the roadmap to transfer 32 million driving licenses into PET ones is regulated.
The MOT’s representative said that many paper driving licenses were faked while the paper material made them more susceptible to being cracked and wet, resulting in quick damage. Transferring driving licenses into plastic ones helps state agencies with better management as well as meets the requirements of international integration in driving licenses.
"Plastic driving licenses create favorable conditions for Vietnamese people in other countries (the countries signed driver's license reciprocity agreements ) in need of using vehicles or changing driving licenses," Deputy Director of Vietnam Road Administration , Mr. Ngo Van Quyen said.
Earlier, on January 1st, HCM city officially began issuing the new driving licenses made of PET material.
