ACM/ICPC: Fierce competition among students of Vietnam's leading IT Universities
In the morning of October 26, National Round of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM / ICPC) 2013 took place with the participation of 164 teams from 56 universities and colleges across the country. Ranking has been heated up right in the first moments by the fierce competition among the giants in IT training as FPT University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences, University of Technology, etc.

ACM/ICPC, known as the world’s prestigious programming contest held annually, gathers excellent students of programming and algorithms all over the world. In Vietnam, it became a playground for students as well as a fierce competition among the top IT universities to win tickets to the world final.
On October 26, National Round of ACM/ICPC 2013 took place at 7 places with the participation of 164 teams from 56 universities and colleges across the country. Each team including 3 members along with 1 networked computer must solve 10 algorithm/programming problems in the quickest and most accurate way. The result of each test was scored by software and updated immediately on the online system. Thanks to this transparent and fast judging form , the teams, their coaches and people interested in the contest can follow matches closely and assess the abilities as well as quality ground of the teams attending this year’s ACM / ICPC.
Right from the first programming problems, the sort table was constantly re-ordered. In particular, the fierce chasing among top 3 including the teams from FPT University, University of Technology - National University of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences showed a fierce intellectual struggle and their fighting skill and spirit. Finally, as all three teams finished 8 out of 10 problems, ranking was created by play time. Accordingly, Independence team from University of Technology - National University won the championship. First prize was shared by FPT University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
After the online national round, in November 2013, the regional round of ACM/ICPC attended by international teams promises to take place with more fierce competition in Da Nang.
Reportedly, just before the national round of ACM/ICPC in Vietnam, Runes of Champion team of FPT University had joined the regional round in Jakarta, Indonesia and ranked the 3rd. NTU ThanQ team of Singapore’s National University gained the champion with 8 out of 10 problems solved. Kirino P team of Taiwan’s National University ranked the second while Runes of Champion Team of FPT University ranked the third and shared the first prize with Kirino P team (both of teams solved 7 out of 10 problems but different in terms of play time ).
Under the provisions of ACM/ICPC, those countries which want to join this contest must hold a national competition to select the best team for the world final. Besides, the teams can also find additional tickets by participating in regional competitions.
