The contest is held in support of “the year of IT application in schools” launched by the MoET. The contest is aiming at building an educational playground for elementary and pre-highschool students, encouraging students to use the Internet for educational purposes; and creating a friendly environment for studies and knowledge exchange.

To sign up for the contest, students can login http://www.violympic.vn/Default.aspx. Students must score above 75% to move on to the next round. If failing, they can redo the exams to strengthen their knowledge and problem-solving skills. Students who successfully enter the 25th round (the national round) will have a chance to win medals, prizes, and recognition certificates from the MoET.

The national round is held annually, with participation of 63 cities and provinces in Vietnam, each having at least 10 competitors. There will be 441 medals to be awarded to each age group.

The MOET hopes this contest will promote the use of the Internet as an educational gateway for students to improve their mathematical capability. The contest will also help identify Vietnam’s young mathematical talents.
