With a view to promoting chess and supporting Vietnam’s chess talents to achieve high results in international championships, FPT Corporation have started cooperation with the Vietnam Chess Federation (VCF) since 2007 to discover and train young chess players nationwide, sponsoring their daily training needs as well as traveling expenses abroad.

On May 15th 2008 the VCF signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Corporation for the Financing and Promoting of Technology for the period from 2008 to 2010. In 2008, FPT will continue its scholarship program for 15 chess players, each scholarship worth VND 500,000/month, as well as sponsor awards for Gold Medalists in Championships.

Mr. Hoàng Minh Châu, Deputy General Director of FPT says: “This is the 2nd consecutive year that FPT have sponsored Vietnam’s chess talents. FPT wishes to make direct and effective contributions to Vietnam’s regional and international sports achievements. We hope our chess talents will continue to train to become champions, and to bring glory to Vietnam.”

Since 2007, FPT Corporation has proactively support young chess talents nationwide. The organization has given 12 monthly scholarships to 12 young talents aged from 6 to 10 in Hanoi, Hochiminh City, Kien Giang, Dong Thap, Lam Dong, Danang, Haiduong, Haiphong, Bac Giang… These are all very talented players with National recognitions in chess (recommended by VCF or a responsible agency) whose families are met with financial difficulties. Some of these scholarship recipients have achieved very promising results in championships in 2008.

Chess is one of the few sports that Vietnam has received notable achievements, regionally, continentally as well as internationally.
