Mr. Hoang Minh Chau – Deputy General Director of FPT said: “This is part of FPT's donation plan to promote the growth of chess in Vietnam. We hope all Vietnamese players will achieve high results in the regional as well as in the world competitions. International competitions held in Vietnam will make the country's image better and more widely recognized over the world.”.
Chess is one of very few sports that Vietnam has traditionally dominated, reaping high achievements and medals in various championships in the region, of the continents and all over the world. Fully aware of this, since 2007 FPT has searched and made donations for players from 6 to 10 years old, who are gifted at the subject, loving to play chess, having achieved high results at the national level, but having a difficult living circumstance. These young players are also in the strategic chess training programs, prepared for the international chess champions.
The World Young Chess Champion 2008 jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the People’s Committee of Bà Rịa- Vũng Tàu Province, the World Chess Federation, Vietnam Chess Federation and CIAT at the Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province's Gymnasium. This is an international event attracting about 1,500 players from 8 to18 years old, referees and experts from nearly 80 countries over the world. Giants in chess such as Russia, France, USA, Hungary, China and India have all sent their most talented players to compete. Vietnam has 95 players participating in the championship.
