FPT Elead Competitive to Foreign Brands

The wave of computer assembly and manufacturing Vietnam brand is seething as the emerging rise of local and joint venture enterprises. Facing the fierce competition, FPT Elead Computer Company has selected its own path.

Welcoming regulations on state budget projects on purchasing computers assembled in Vietnam, regardless of local and/or foreign brands, FPT Elead signed computer assembly agreement with NEC and HP.

The move is a realization of FPT Elead Company in the strategy Compete with foreign brands. Which is a different way of other local computer companies, focusing on developing Vietnam brand computers.

Taking the lead in assembling computers, Elead takes additional step in competition with foreign brands. This can be seen as a strategic step to take proactive action in the free trade areas and in the globalization process.

Since 2006, FPT Elead has directed its operations towards customers. As ICT statistics said, on July 2007, Elead surpassed USD 10 million, increasing 35.8% compared to those in 2006 that obtained volume of USD 18.2 million. Elead is the only computer brand in Vietnam which is on largely purchased by customers.

The breakthrough of the company is the first online warranties provider in Vietnam, that helps it save costs, time and quick information from customers to agencies and the company. The system has been in use by more than 400 Elead agencies in the nationwide.

Despite the retail channel, Elead keeps her eyes on project segment. Elead has expanded her retail channels in projects and close relations with projects business agencies.

Further move in developing projects is proved by the Elead agreements with NEC and HP, making a shortcut of new tendency, with capacity of 240,000 computers/year, the cooperation with NEC and HP will help Elead make echo.

NEC and HP experts have started to transfer technology to Elead divisions information standards, quality and product test.

FPT Elead assembled HP and NEC computers in Vietnam is a preparation for triangle business penetrating into local market and will export to regional countries. Target local customers are Japanese investors and projects in Vietnam.

Furthermore, FPT Elead received the nominative partnership certificate and become the OEM of Microsoft (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in Vietnam that supports FPT Elead to access resources such as technical service coordination, background knowledge and priorities in the Instruction list of Microsoft that will help Elead sustained in the playing field.

According to IDC, in 2007, computer market in Vietnam consumed 1.2 million computers among which 70% are locally assembled. On average, the common price is USD 300/piece. Local market is planned to be USD 360 and will further accelerate in the incoming years. Market share of Vietnam computer brands is about 10%, the remain is foreign computers, second hand computers and personally assembled.
