FPT grants 300 scholarships to Agent Orange child victims

Hanoi, 20th August, 2009- The National Fund for Vietnamese Children, VNED (the abbreviation of “Vietnam, les Enfants de la Dioxine”, an Agent Orange children protection fund in France ) and FPT Corporation signed an MOU to sponsor 300 scholarships to children suffering from Dioxin poisoning in Quang Tri province within three school years from 2009 to 2012.

Annually, 100 scholarships worth 1,200,000 VND each shall be granted in September to encourage disabled children and AO (abbreviation of Agent Orange) child victims to continue to learn or be vocationally trained for their community integration.

The subjects of the FPT’s scholarship are children who are physically or mentally disabled or having slight mental illness under the age of 17, attending either normal schools or special education centers.

The annual income of the chosen families with AO child victims is under the poverty line defined by the UNDP for Vietnam.

FPT prioritizes its scholarships for families having more than one disabled child due to dioxin toxicity in Quang Tri province.

“War victims, especially the victims of AO toxin, beside the silent pain on their body, have been tortured by seeing the aftermaths of this calamity their offspring is suffering from. We do hope that with this small sponsor, dioxin child victims, who are still able to go to school or vocational training would be partly supported to enjoy a better life” said Bui Quang Ngoc, the Vice General Director of FPT Corporation.

Previously, in April 2009, FPT had provided support of 100 million Dong for VNED to carry out free heart surgery for dioxin child victims.
