FPT named in top 10 science and technology events 2010
On 29 December, at Hoa Binh hotel, Science and TechnologyPress Club- a member of the Vietnam Journalists Association - announced thevoting result for top ten science and technology events in 2010. The nominationlist was voted by more than 40 science and technology journalists from centraland local newspapers voted on the list of nominated events and FPT wasacknowledged for establishing its technology research institute.

The top ten science and technology events in 2010 were:
1. NAFOSTED’s breakthrough in the management of science and technology research.
2. The establishment of researching institute by enterprises.
Enterprises today understand that science and technology play a determining role in sustainable development, and a number of enterprises have established research institutes as a positive move to ensure longevity. On25 May 2010, the FPT Technology Research Institute was founded to create a favorable working environment for Vietnamese and international researchers to develop industries for the national economy. The FPT funded institute is managed by FPT University with the primary functions of studying and developing science and technology along with related training. It will conduct research to meet the requirements of the FPT group and other individuals and organizations; develop a training curriculum; and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and sharing information, technology and products within the scope of its operations.
The Binh An Fishery Research Institute is a similar establishment which was inaugurated on 30 July 2010 in Tra Noc industrial zone in Can Tho City. It will focus on researching and applying new technologies inthe fishery industry including genetic selection and reproduction; food,medicine, vaccination, and biological products for fisheries; and upgrading processing technology to increase product value and meet the industry’s demands. It is currently concentrating on conserving and raising catfish species which are a specialty of the Mekong delta.
3. Completing the general study on 1000-year-old Thang Long- Hanoi (KX-09).
4. The central section of the Thang Long-Hanoi Imperial Citadel being accepted as a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.
5 . The first successful heart transplant in Vietnam.
6 . The introduction of the 32-bit processor, VN 1632
7. The successful assembly of a super-sized 1,200 ton crane by Quang Trung Mechanical Enterprise.
8. Vietnamese anti virus software listed among world’s top ten anti virus software.
9. Vietnam-USA cooperation in nuclear energy.
10. Professor Ngo Bao Chau winning the Fields Medal formathematics.
The Science and Technology Press Club is a member of the VietnamJournalists Association and was established under Decision No. 89.QDD/TV-HNBVN,dated 23 October 2008. The Club operates on the principle of self rule andprovides a forum for science and technology journalists to meet and cooperate, improvetheir professional skills, and propagate the state’s science and technologydevelopment policies.
