FPT shall present 100.000.000 VND for Vietnamese team if they enter Top 30 in the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC)

On 7th to 9th October 2009, the ACM/ICPC Vietnam 2009 was organized in Nha Trang University in Khanh Hoa province. This is the base to choose the representative team of Vietnam to participate in the regional ground of Asia in Thailand in November 2009 and the world ground in China in April 2010.

By encouraging technological creativeness of the youth, FPT Corporation has promised to present 100.000.000 VND to any Vietnamese team who enter the world final ground of the contest and rank among Top 30 of the world.

If it could be one of the top 40, the team shall receive 50.000.000 VND from FPT, who also promised to grant 10.000.000 VNĐ for the team with the best performance.

In the International ACM/ICPC 2009, the first prized- team was also granted with amount of 26.000.000 VND. Two laptops were also given to winners of 18th Student Computing Olympic organized by Vietnam Association for Information Processing in parallel with the ACM/ICPC contest.

ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) is the largest annual programming contest in the world for students. In order to select excellent students for the national team, the ACM/ICPC is held annually by the Vietnam Association for Information Processing (VAIP for short) at the same time with the Vietnam’s Student Olympic Competition.

This is the chance for students of colleges and universities in Vietnam to practice and show their problem-solving and programming skills with regional competitors. The contested content is in English, running on Windows XP platform using the languages of C/C++ (Dev C) and Java.

In 2008, the ACM/ICPC Asia took place in the International Islamic University Malaysia, Malaysia. The teams of TheLastChance and HCMUNS – Vision from Technology College of Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences respectively participated in the contest as Vietnamese representatives. TheLastChance won the second prize, standing the 6th among 58 attending teams and continued to the world finals. The HCMUNS – Vision won the third.

At the world finals hosted by the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden on 21st April 2009, the Vietnamese team ranks the 65th among 109 attending team.

The highest position of a Vietnamese team in the world final of ACM/ICPC has been 44th by the Chicken of Technology College of Hanoi National University.

About ACM/ICPC:

Under the sponsorship of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM for short), the ACM/ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) was first time organized in the United States in 1970, attracting thousands of excellent students majored in computing around the world.

The Contest aims to encourage the creativeness, teamwork and innovation in programming that allow students to test their executing ability under high time pressure. This is the oldest, largest and most prestigious programming contest in the world.

Universities and Colleges worldwide are able to register for the regional ground at: http://icpc.baylor.edu/icpc/. The universities may register as many teams as they want, each of which includes three students and one supervisor. Based on their regional performance, the highest-scored- teams shall be able to attend the World Finals, which is organized annually in a different country. Each university should only have one team to enter the Finals.
