FPT signs semiconductor cooperation agreement with Asia University, Taiwan (China)

On January 13, 2025, FPT University, FPT Corporation, and Asia University — one of the Top 6 universities in Taiwan (China) and ranked among the Top 500 globally according to THE World University Rankings 2025 — signed a MoU on training cooperation in semiconductors and smart manufacturing, marking a significant milestone in advancing Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.

The two institutions have signed multiple cooperation agreements, including two key initiatives:

(1) IC Design/Semiconductor Circuit Design Program – This program enables FPT University students majoring in IC Design to participate in semester-long exchange programs and internships in Taiwan (China);
(2) Semiconductor Manufacturing Training Program – Under the program, Vietnamese students will pursue a degree from Asia University, completing the first two years of study in Vietnam, followed by the final two years in Taiwan (China) to earn their degree from Asia University.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Thanh, FPT Corporation, signed the cooperation agreement with the representative of Asia University, Taiwan (China).

At the signing ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Khac Thanh, Principal of FPT University, FPT Corporation, emphasized that Vietnam’s economy is rapidly growing, creating an urgent demand for semiconductor talent. He stated that collaborating with Asia University, which benefits from Taiwan’s (China) extensive experience in the semiconductor industry, will play a crucial role in training top-tier semiconductor professionals for Vietnam.

After the signing ceremony, the FPT University delegation visited Asia University's research centers and semiconductor laboratories. The delegation highly praised the university's facilities and research achievements, affirming that this partnership will create new opportunities for developing Vietnam's semiconductor workforce.

As part of the cooperation agreement with Asia University, on January 15, 2025, the FPT University delegation, along with Asia University’s leadership, visited the TSMC Newbie Training Center. During the visit, TSMC experts provided a detailed introduction, allowing the delegation to experience the center’s three-class practical model and observe the most advanced equipment in the semiconductor industry.

The semiconductor industry is regarded as the foundation for core technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including AI, IoT, and smart manufacturing. Vietnam has officially introduced the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Semiconductor Industry to 2030, with a Vision to 2050, aiming to establish itself as a crucial link in the global semiconductor supply chain under the formula: C = SET + 1. In this formula, T represents "Talent" — human resources and skilled professionals — underscoring that investing in human capital is the first and most strategic step in Vietnam's journey to becoming a global hub for semiconductor talent.

In 2024, FPT University officially launched the Semiconductor Microchip major under its Information Technology program, reinforcing its commitment to supplying high-quality semiconductor professionals to the global market and enhancing national competitiveness. Currently, 1,600 students at FPT University are pursuing studies in chip and semiconductor technology, striving to become global citizens and confidently stepping onto the international stage.

Meanwhile, Taiwan (China) is recognized as the "capital" of the global semiconductor industry, home to leading corporations such as TSMC and UMC. Beyond its manufacturing strength, Taiwan’s education system is designed to support the semiconductor sector, offering specialized training programs in chip design and smart manufacturing.

Asia University, Taiwan (China), was founded in 2001 and has rapidly grown into one of Taiwan’s leading universities. It boasts state-of-the-art facilities and a comprehensive training program specializing in chip design and smart manufacturing. Additionally, the university is ranked among the Top 100 young universities in THE Young University Rankings.
