FPT Telecom come second in broadband Internet market share
According to Vietnam ICT white book 2014, with 56.25% market share of broadband Internet VNPT ranked the first while FPT Telecom came 2nd with 26.80% market share in 2013.

Vietnam’s 2014 White Book on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was officially released at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 27. Accordingly, Internet and telecommunications infrastructure remained sustainable development with USD 7.4 billion in total revenue in 2013. Internet bandwidth in 2013 reached 640,000 Mbps, an 83-per cent year-on-year increase.
Regarding the share in broadband Internet access (both fixed and mobile), in 2013, with 51.2% VNPT possessed the largest market share out of 8 businesses offering the service, followed by Viettel with nearly 39%.
For the growth of Internet users, Vietnam was among Top 10 Asian countries. The country ranked third in Southeast Asia, the 7th in Asia and the 18th in the world in Internet users.
By the end of 2013, Vietnam had over 33 million Internet users, an increase of 2 million users compared with 2012, and equivalent to 37% of the total population. The number of broadband Internet subscribers reached 22.3 million, while the number of subscribers to access the Internet via 3G connection was 17.2 million. Charges for telecommunications and Internet services in Vietnam ranked 8th out of 148, meaning the lowest one in the world.
As shown by Gartner's report, Vietnam was among the top 10 in Asia - Pacific region and top 30 in the world in outsourcing. HCMC and Hanoi also came 17th and 22nd respectively among the top 100 most attractive outsourcing locations.
In 2013, the total revenue of the IT industry reached USD 39.5 billion, up 55.3% compared to 2012. USD 36.7 billion of this impressive figure (about 93%) was contributed by hardware and electronics. Software and Digital Content increased by 12.7% and 13.9% in turn, higher than ones in 2012.
IT product export reached USD 34.76 billion, an increase of 51.7%, 63% of which was taken up by phones export. In particular, total exports were nearly USD 8.4 billion higher than imports. The total number of IT employees was 440,000 people, 65% of whom came from the hardware industry. There were 8 IT Parks, attracting nearly 300 enterprises and 46,000 IT workers.
Vietnam's IT industry witnessed some changes in its organizational structure. The National Committee on IT application chaired by the Prime Minister was established. On January 07, 2014 the Politburo issued Resolution No. 36 to accelerate IT application and development in order to meet the requirements of sustainable development and international integration.
The book, published annually since 2009 by the National Steering Committee on Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communications, aims to supplies information and data in the fields of ICT infrastructure.
