All WiFi integrated handsets, such as laptops, PDAs, and smartphones, can connect to the Internet from FPT Telecom’s Access Stations.
Handsets that connect with WiFi FPT Telecom can have access to six TV programs, films, newspapers, and the latest stock prices and exchange rates at www.pda.vn - the information gateway for handsets, which was set up by FPT Telecom, with a screen format compatible with hand phone screens and PDA screens.
The WiFi FPT Telecom network will supply other value added services on the Internet, including VoIP. The integrated WiFi phones have SIPSoft, which help users to connect to a host computer of a VoIP provider through the Internet and call other subscribers of the same or different networks. The phones, while connecting to WiFi, can be used as hand phones with two Simcards, one using GSM and the other VoIP with WiFi technology.
With 5,000 stations in the first stage of the project, WiFi FPT Telecom has launched its activities in public venues such as cafes, restaurants, hotels, airports, schools, banks, stock transaction centers, and elsewhere. It is expected that, in late 2007, FPT Telecom will have launched a total of 8,000 WiFi stations in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi .
Mai Sung, Deputy General Director of FPT Telecom said: “In the time to come the project will be develop ed in parallel with the establishment of FPT Telecom branches in Hai Phong city and Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ha Tay provinces. In 2008 the project will be implemented in Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Long An and Vung Tau provinces .”
