In Britain, birthplace of GEW, the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown attended and spoke at the opening ceremony. Nearly 3,000 activities have been organized in Britain, 754 in the US, 420 in Malaysia. Spain and Mexico are also among the top 5 countries with the most activities with total of 98.

In 2007, over 5,000 activities were held all over the world, attracting more than five hundred thousand participants.

2008 is the first year that GEW has been organized in Vietnam, connecting Vietnam students with those from more than 70 countries over the world.

The British Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Mark A.G. Kent talked openly with students about GEW activities in the UK, sharing

views and thoughts about life of a foreigner in Vietnam, as well as inspiring innovation and creativity of the young generation.

Students also had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Ly Truong Chien (Director of Tri Tri Corporation, member of EU International Management and Consultant Group); Mr. Đoan Đinh Hoang (CEO of Kool Beer Store and Passio Coffee chain); poet Ly Hoang Ly; director My Khanh; actress Mai Thu Huyen and singers Tien Đạt, Thao Trang.

Visky tech group took this chance to promote its connectivity products and applications such as mobile SMS Vitalk, Vihuni forum, ViMua, and Festival.

The event was a chance for students to test themselves in new and exciting games. “Dividend” is a securities simulated game in which investors use virtual money to invest in stocks, real estate… The game provides virtual investors real-life experiences in investment and account balance. Educational games such as puzzles, word and group games promoted hand-eye coordination, logical thinking, panorama viewing as well as team work.

The event has inspired students, FPT University students as well as students from other universities to dare to dream, and dare to act while creating a connected community between entrepreneurs and students for experience sharing and realization of dreams, helping to get the message across that “entrepreneurs are at the heart of an economy, acting as a cultural bridge between nations”.

“Not every one will become an entrepreneur, especially FPT University students, those who will graduate with a degree in IT engineering. However, the spirit of GEW are very similar to the values FPT University tries to promote including creativity, pro-activity, connectivity, dare to dream, and dare to act. By organizing this event, we hope that students will have more and more playgrounds where they can initiate business ideas so that entrepreneurship can continue to flourish”, said Dr Le Truong Tung, Dean of FPT University.

The event is the world’s largest event to celebrate and promote innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, inspiring a new generation of young entrepreneurs to address global issues, bringing together students from Vietnam and over 70 other countries from November 17th to 23rd 2008.

Beside the opening program, the GEW in Vietnam will continue with other activities such as forming English clubs for secondary school students, introducing a picture dictionary website for children, orientation seminars for students, simulated business games, connecting innovation, organizing leaders club, entrepreneur book week, volunteers etc.
