The Event received huge support and encouragement from the Japanese embassy as well as from the Vietnam-Japan Cultural Friendship Association. The Japanese embassy brought many valuable items on display such as a Japanese Doll collection, Japanese Emperor’s overcoat while the Vietnam-Japan Cultural Friendship Association provided pamphlets about the history of Japanese culture.

Mr. Hattori Norio, former Japanese Ambassador plenipotentiary to Vietnam , during his working visit to FPT University affirmed that the Japanese embassy will actively assist the University in the teaching and training of students about Japan and Japanese culture. These cultural exchanges are bridges that will bring the two countries closer in other areas of cooperation.

At the event, students had the chance to meet and talk with representative from the Japanese embassy, see Karatedo – Japanese famous martial art – demonstrations.

Ms. Mariko Yamamoto teaches students about tea ceremony

FPT University invited Ms. Mariko Yamamoto, a Japanese tea ceremony practitioner to Vietnam to teach students as well as introduce and demonstrate chadō or sadō, “the way of tea” during the event.

“When people mention Japanese culture, many will think of Japanese tea ceremonies. Tea ceremony became popular in Japan in the 13th century, founded by the monk Murata Juko when he realized the beauty of simplicity in tea confection and incorporated the teachings of zen into tea ceremonies. Tea drinking is not simply to satisfy thirst, but a spiritual hobby where you can slowly sip your cup of tea and think about life. I’ve studied tea ceremonies for 13 years, and must continue to study it in 10 years to reach the zenith of tea ceremony” says Ms. Mariko.

Students were introduced to the paper folding art Origami, Ikebana flower arrangement, and were instructed to make simple products. Japanese cuisine also made its presence known with Onigiri, a very popular dish in Japan . Other cultural events also took place, such as Goe competitions, or anime and manga learning. The night program (which started from 7 PM ) was a cultural and musical feast, with traditional performances by both cultures.
