FPT’s highlights in 2008

"In 2008, FPT achieved of US$ 1 billion in revenue, a milestone in the company’s development. From 2001 to 2007, FPT’s annual growth rate was about 40%. In the coming years, FPT will continue to maintain the current growth together with its expansion plans".

1. FPT Corporation reached US$ 1 billion in revenue
FPT’s revenue growth from 1988 – 2008

On December 30, 2008, FPT earned 1 billion dollars in revenues, confirming its position as the leading Vietnamese company in IT and telecommunications.

Despite the global financial crisis seriously affecting the national economy, this achievement has proven the company’s right vision as well as its staff’s determination to overcome obstacles and challenges.

“US$ 1 billion in revenue in 2008 marks an important milestone for FPT after 20 years of development. From 2001 to 2007, FPT’s average annual growth rate was 40%. FPT will retain this growth and continue following its visions”, said Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc, Deputy General Director of FPT

2. FPT Software branched out in Malaysia, France, US and Australia

In 2008, FPT Software established many subsidiaries in Malaysia, France, Australia and the US.

The event is a vital step of FPT's globalization strategy to promote its software development and export activities, particularly in the US - the world's largest market; and also to expand to new potential markets in Asia Pacific such as Australia and New Zealand.

Total revenue forecasts for these two markets in 2009 are about US$13 million.

The development of key branches in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Europe is supporting that of FPT USA and FPT Australasia within FPT's globalization strategy.

To promote the Japanese market, FPT Software continues to strengthen its efforts by opening the first Hitachi Joho – FPT Software Center in Vietnam on September 13, 2008. Hitachi Joho is a subsidiary of Hitachi Corporation. 

3. FPT Information System stepped up globalization efforts

July 3, 2008, FPT Corporation and SAP Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) announced plans for cooperation in the Southeast Asian and Japanese market.

Under the agreement, FPT will join SAP’s Services Partner Program to introduce world class solutions and global best practices that will propel both companies in Southeast Asia and Japan into the global economy.

SAP is committed to bringing FPT to markets in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.

4. FPT promoted eCitizen strategy

In 2008 Visky group, under the aegis of FPT Corporation launched many online services to serve the community including the first local friend making site – Vihuni; the first mobile messaging application – Vitalk; and the first mobile digital map – Vimap in Vietnam.

Also in 2008, FPT Corporation held the 4th annual Mobile Labs contest. With the theme “Connecting communities”, this year’s contest attracted the attention of both IT enthusiasts as well as telecommunications service providers, phone makers and mobile applications distributors and makers.

5. FPT changed its executives

In 2008, FPT Corporation saw changes in its executive echelons.

On November 25, 2008, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam was voted Chairman of the Management Board of FPT Software effective as of December 1, 2008 (in replacement for Mr. Truong Gia Binh). Mr. Nam will leave his position as General Director of FPT Software effective from January 1 2009. Ms. Bui Thi Hong Lien is his replacement.

The Management Board of FPT Corporation has voted Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam as General Director of FPT Corporation effective as of April 15, 2009. Mr. Trương Gia Bình will continue to be the Chairman of the Management Board of FPT Corporation and will focus on FPT’s planning work. 

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam is one of the founders of FPT, and has occupied many important positions in FPT. This decision of the Board reaffirms FPT’s commitment towards globalization, software and services development, while also realizing the company’s goals for sustainable development.

6. FPT turned FPT Telecom and FPT Information System into corporations

In April 2008, FPT Telecom becomes a corporation with 6 subsidiaries: FPT Telecom Northern Ltd., FPT Telecom Southern Ltd., FPT Telecom International Ltd., FPT IDC (Internet Data Center) Ltd., FPT Online Promo Ltd., FPT Online Services. 

From July 1, 2008, FPT Information System shall operate under corporation form with 7 subsidiaries: FPT-IS-Bank; FPT-IS-FSE; FPT-IS-TES; FPT-IS-SRV; FPT-IS-ERP; FPT-IS-PFS; FPT-IS-SOFT. 

7. FPT Information System won the bid for the Personal Income tax Management project

On December 26, 2008 FPT Information System (FPT IS) signed the contract for Personal Income Tax Management Project to support the Government in management of the 13 million tax payers. About 10 thousand tax officers are expected to use the application provided by FPT IS .

This will be the largest management program ever in the Southeast Asia region. FPT Corporation winning the bid affirms the trust of the Government and the General Tax Bureau in its capabilities.

This is also the largest service package FPT has ever undertaken, with total value worth up to US$15.5 million.

8. FPT Telecom was officially licensed to provide VoIP service and be member of AAG

On January 28, 2008, FPT Telecom officially became a member of the Asia – American Gateway AAG, eligible for investment in the Pacific undersea cable installation project.

FPT Telecom is tasked with the construction of a cable relay station at Vũng Tàu – AAG cable contact point in Vietnam. The Vung Tau – HCMC route construction will soon follow, connecting FPT Telecom’s IP infrastructure with the AAG network. Once in operation, it will upgrade FPT Telecom’s international bandwidth to at least 40 GB.

On April 10, 2008 The Ministry of Information and Communications has allowed FPT Telecom to operate for “Provision of telecommunication services using IP Technology”, under the license No. 545/GP-BTTTT. Pursuant to the license, FPT Telecom will provide VoIP services with the head number of 176 based on Next Generation Network (NGN) Technology.

Also in 2008 FPT Telecom and PCCW Global (subsidiary of one leading Hong Kong telecommunications provider) signed a connection agreement.

9. FPT invested in TienPhongBank

May 7, 2008, TienPhongBank was officially granted a licence for operation, with the name TienPhongBank. 

TienPhongBank’s joint owners are FPT Corporation; VMS Mobifone; and Vinare.

The joint investment and cooperation by these giants gives TienPhongBank an edge in information technology, mobile telecommunications technology, and finance.

Complimented with diverse products, and services portfolio, these are the main factors contributing to the provision of safe, simple, and convenient banking and finance services for customers.

10. FPT celebrated the 20th anniversary

FPT celebrated its 20th birthday in 2008. From the frist 13 founders, FPT Corporation now has more than 9 thousand employees, with 16 subsidiaries and partners, branching out in 6 countries, with the revenue of US$1 billion and profits of US$73.6 million.

They have made impressive business results, sports and cultural festivities, torch relays, a bicycle race through FPT headquarters, and a 20 year chronicle of FPT.
