Investment for science development
FPT R&D Institute, which is fully sponsored by the Corporation and managed by FPT University, has been allowed to come to operation.

In 2010, the Corporation shall spare an investment of VND 3,5 billion for FPT R&D Institute. In the future, as calculated by Tran The Trung- Institute Director, research activities shall account for 1-2% of the corporate revenue, in which 30% of expense shall be poured into basic science and the rest into application research.
Tran said : " the foundation of the Institute is an important milestone after twenty years of development of the corporation”. In fact, for the past years, FPT has neither held any possession of technological invention nor the privilege to exploit the technology that is able to bring competitive advantages against domestic and foreign competitors.
He revealed that the Institute would direct the research conduction to four fields including: IT application, clean energy and power saving, biological technology and space study.
Accordingly the Institute shall study and develop products ordered by FPT Corporation and its partners in parallel with cooperation in research and development and training with other members of the Corporation.
At the moment, FPT R&D Institute has signed three cooperation agreements with Information Technology Researching Institute, Hanoi National University, The Vietnam Foundation and FPT Software Researh and Development Company (a member of FPT Software) for IT application, employment and development of open educational resources program and technological initiatives.
" The Institute is studying ten projects. We are able to implement two projects for minimization of FTTH signal loss of optical cable connection and designing and collecting television rating” said Trung.
Especially he suggested that the project on designing and collecting television rating is a “realistic project”. The institute shall create a signal collector attached on each TV set to record every single action of viewer, which is similar to the passive people meter in China and Korea. In Vietnam, there is only one company, TNS, providing rating meter. However, TNS seldom discloses the result widely but sells them to interested TV stations at the price of US $ 30.000 / year.
Technology research is a must for a company desire of development. Big names like Toyota , Microsoft, Apple, and Nokia established their R&D centers in early days, from which new products have been annually born, bringing huge benefit for vendors.
"It ’s a long way for FPT to climb as high as Toyota or Microsoft. Once enabled by technology, the gap between FPT and they would be shortened. We shall have chances to cooperate with world leading vendors” said Trung.
He also insisted that by 2011 the Institute would earn an invention certification. “I believe we definitely can because we have a young and creative staff and proper investment from the corporation” he added.
Trung expressed his ambition to attract world leading experts and a number of outstanding Vietnamese among 300.000 , who are being trained and working in universities and institutes across the nation.
