Press release: FPT to build centralized statistic datacenter of Vietnam

Hanoi, December 13, 2012 – the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the project Modernization of the General Statistic Office (GSO) and FPT Information System Corporation (FPT IS) organized the kick-off ceremony of the “GSO5.2a: Building Centralized Statistic Datacenter and Internal Information Portal for the Statistic Industry”. This is one of the key components within the framework of the project Modernization of the General Statistic Office, which is one of five largest subprojects of the Vietnam ITC Project funded by the World Bank.

The GSO5.2a package aims to (i) organize data centrally with continuous updates from official data sources and improve the statistical synthesis and analysis using data warehouse and datamarts with the assistance of business intelligence (BI) and data mining tools; and (ii) enhance user experience by convenient and fast data sharing via the Information Portal.

Generally, the GSO5.2a, along with other important components of the project, is expected to improve the quality of statistical information, enhancing the GSO’s capability to compose indices for the National Statistical Index System of the Vietnam Statistic Development Strategy in 2011-2020 period with the vision to 2030 to help the Vietnamese government make better plans to realize its millennium goals.

The package will be implemented within six months.

Beneficiaries from the package “Building Centralized Statistical Datacenter and Internal Information Portal for the Statistic Industry” include:

- Functional divisions of the GSO, Statistical Information Centers in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, and statistic offices of provinces and cities across the nation.

- State agencies and organizations would benefit from accurate and reliable statistical resources to create accurate analysis reports and make better policies and timely action plans.

- Enterprise community and people would be best supported with business planning, researching and studying. This centralized data source also grant access to interested researchers, helping to deduce socio-economic development principles for the country in each specific period of time.

FPT IS will apply the Microsoft’s latest technology with cloud computing- oriented solutions to build Data Warehouse for the centralized statistical data center and information portal of the General Statistic Office.

About the Project Modernization of the General Statistic Office of Vietnam:

The Project to modernize the General Statistic Office of Vietnam has been deployed since June 2006 and expects to finish by the end of June 2013.

From general point of view, once completed, the project would create positive and thorough impacts on state and government organs, enterprises, the people and foreign organizations who seek for cooperation with Vietnam.

The project will help to enhance the data organization and modernization of professional processes through the application of information technology and communication. It is expected to timely provide socio-economic information of high quality, large coverage and accurate content to foster the country’s development scheme and to address the requirement of people to access accurate information. The project would leverage the statistic industry of Vietnam to keep pace with other countries in the region, matching with international common practices and contributing a remarkable part to the internationally economic integration of the country.
