The 7th International Conference on Project Management held in Vietnam

From 6 to 9 November, FPT University and the Society of Project Management (SPM) held PROMAC 2013 - the 7th International Conference on Project Management.

Bringing together top project managers from Japan, the U.S., Britain, France, China, India, Malaysia and Indonesia etc., PROMAC 2013 gave Vietnam’s project managers a great opportunity to met and exchange views with the world's leading experts.

PROMAC is organized annually by the Society of Project Management (SPM), Japan. It brings together the excellent thinkers and leaders inside and outside Japan to discuss on project management related topics, then promoting project management in Asia in particular and the world in general . From 6 to 9 November, this year's conference saw 60 topics discussed in groups by experts and project managers. In 2012, PROMAC was held in Hawaii, USA. This was the first time the conference had been held in Vietnam.

Bringing PROMAC to Viet Nam, the Japanese Society of Project Management (SPM) predicted the event would allow Vietnamese project managers to tap into Japan's vast project management community. At the conference, FPT University also delivered a speech as the first university in Viet Nam to introduce project management into tertiary training programs.

Sharing the educational perspective of conforming to reality and training what entrepreneurs and society need, FPT University along with 10 major universities from other countries namely University of Tokyo (Japan), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and Malaysia University of Science and Technology is fully aware that students need to be taught project management at university to enable a faster transition into the workforce and the ability to work on large scale projects.

FPT University not only introduces project management into tertiary training programs, but also invites project management experts from such great IT companies as FPT, Viettel and CMC to discuss their experience and knowledge with students.

With rapid development occurring in many fields, there has been an increasing need to foster project management skills across many areas of economic development. International Conference on Project Management PROMAC drew attention of middle and senior level managers from large companies in many countries around the world.

This year's PROMAC conference attracted over 250 international delegates from 10 countries, including mainly project managers from research and development departments of giants such as Fujitsu, Hitachi, and IBM Japan etc. Teaching staffs from universities across Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India and Viet Nam were also present.

At the conference, the representative of SPM in Vietnam, FPT Chairman Professor Dr. Truong Gia Binh talked about opportunities and challenges in the field of project management in Vietnam – the Development Centre of a dynamic Asia.

Moving to information technology (IT) as the core platform for development, Vietnam is facing significant challenges as IT development requires a skilled labor pool, especially high quality project managers, closely connecting with international project management network, which could be partially solved at PROMAC 2013.

SPM President, Mr. Tetsuro Seki said that held in Vietnam, which had many IT potentials and great opportunities to make a significant breakthrough, ProMAC 2013 promised to bring certain changes in project management thinking and method in all fields. The organizing committee of PROMAC said it expected to see more project management units being taught in universities as a way to keep students in touch rapid with changes in the industry.
