Vietnam’s Internet speed up 18 places
In the 4th quarter of 2014, the average Internet speed of Vietnam increased by 5.6% compared with the 3rd quarter, and by 48% over the same period, reaching 2.2 Mbps. According to Akamai, the United States, this achievement is due to the infrastructure improvement of Internet service providers in the country.

With these figures, Vietnam jumped five places compared to mid 2014to grab the 99th spot.
As shown by Akamai's report, the average internet speed in Vietnam sat among the mid-range of the Southeast Asian region as well as Asia. The average Internet speed of 2.2 Mbps in Vietnam ranked No. 99 in the world, above the Philippines, India and Indonesia.

With 22.2 Mbps, South Korea continued to be the country with highest Internet speed. The next spots among Top 10 are respectively grabbed by Hong Kong (16.8 Mbps), Japan (15.2 Mbps), Sweden (14.6 Mbps), Switzerland (14.5 Mbps), the Netherlands (14.2 Mbps), Latvia (13 Mbps), Ireland (12.7 Mbps), Czech Republic (12.3 Mbps), and Finland (12.1 Mbps).
According to Akamai, global Internet speed reached 4.5 Mbps. Up to 79% of users in Korea used the transmission rate of more than 10 mbps. Followed by Hong Kong (60%), while Switzerland, the Netherlands and Japan (56%).
The recent improvement of service providers, such as FPT, has contributed to increasing Internet speed in the country. In Vietnam, since May 2014, FPT Telecom has upgraded bandwidth Internet access across the country with three service packages including MegaSave, MegaYou and MegaMe.
With the upgrading from 3 Mbps to 5 Mbps for MegaSave, from 6 Mbps to 8 Mbps for MegaYou and from 8 Mbps to 10 Mbps for MegaMe, FPT Telecom aims to fully meet demands for the internet connection at a stable speed, fast downloads and uploads, then save users’ time and costs.
