“Vietnam Student Music Festival 2008” starts

The “Vietnam Student Music Festival 2008” kick-off ceremony was jointly held by Hochiminh Central Communist Youth Union, FPT Corporation and Vietnam Television on May 13th, 2008 in Hanoi .

The Festival began with fascinating performances by 6 educational institutions including Hanoi Foreign Trade University , Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi University of Business and Technology, Hanoi University , Hanoi School of Culture and Art and Hanoi - Amsterdam High School.

This is the first time the contest has been held online at: http://www.lienhoanamnhac.com , from September 1st, 2008 to the year-end. Eligible contestants and voters are students from universities, high schools, secondary schools and vocational schools throughout 64 provinces of Vietnam as well as overseas students. Performances with the most votes will be selected for the final round, scheduled to be held in January 2009.

The initiative to hold the contest and the voting process online was aimed at encouraging students to use Internet and IT in social and cultural activities while saving organizational expenses. It also allows for overseas student to easily participate.

The Music Festival places an important milestone for the beginning of “E-Youth promotion” the period of 2008-2012 between the Hochiminh Central Communist Youth Union and FPT Corporation in March 2008.

More about “E-Youth”:

 The agreement will not only benefit Vietnam ’s youth, but also promote the formation of a young E-citizen community. The deal will help enhance the Youth Union’s IT capacity building as well as improve the organization of meaningful activities for young people online, hence improving and orienting their online activities. The agreement includes 8 specific agenda items:
  1. Organize E-Youth Golden Cup;
  2. Build a global Connected Vietnamese Young Talents E-Network;
  3. Develop Online Training Program Portal for young Vietnamese;
  4. Develop Job Opportunities Portal for young Vietnamese;
  5. Promote basic computing and internet access training for youths;
  6. Hold Music Festivals for Vietnamese students;
  7. Promote IT applications in the Union ’s work and activities;
  8. IT capacity building for the Youth Union’s offices.
