Vietnam has multiple advantages in digital transformation

This was the HSC’s annual event with the objectives of connecting Vietnamese top enterprises with the investment fund and international investors.

On July 7th 2021, Mr. Hoang Viet Anh, FPT’s Executive Vice Presedent had joined the online event - “Emerging Vietnam” hosted by Hochiminh Stock Company (HSC). This was the HSC’s annual event with the objectives of connecting Vietnamese top enterprises with the investment fund and international investors.

Sharing at the discussion of Vietnam’s growing digital economy, Mr. Hoang Viet Anh said, in this global pandemic situation, digital transformation was the vital key to unlock obstacles.

“The past 18 months is the challenging period when COVID-19 strikes and creates such negative effects on the economy. We have witnessed the downfall of many businesses. Some of them even went bankrupt. However, some others also found the solution to overcome this pandemic is digital transformation.”

Digital transformation is the key to this challenge since it allows enterprises to enhance their chances to approach and improve customer services; then to make a breakthrough in productivity.

Vietnam nowadays has competitive advantages to transform quickly in digital transformation and scaling up the size of the economy. According to that fact, other speakers also agreed to the point that Vietnamsese economy’s advantage here was the clear commitment from the government towards the digital transformation goal and investing in digital facilities. Huge investment in digital facilities, young modern generation with high level of adaptation to latest technology are also counted as advantages of Vietnam in this race.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic has encouraged the government, enterprises and individuals to quickly transform digitally to adapt.

Mr. Viet Anh also shared at the discussion, many enterprises showed the intention to transform, however, stumbled with challenges and obstacles. Specifically, according to VCCI and JETRO’s survey among 400 enterprises in Vietnam, top 5 main barriers included: (1) High cost of digital transformation; (2) Lack of digital facilities; (3) Cyber & data security concern; (4) Short of human resources to execute the process; (5) Lack of information & knowledge.
