Client information
The first rail line of Vietnam Railways, constructed in 1881, was 71 km in length linking Saigon and My Tho. The Trans-Viet line was in operation in 1936. At this time the Vietnam Railway network consists of seven main lines linking with a total length of 2,600 km and passing through more than 35 provinces and cities and much difficult terrain.
Project goals
Create a new and transparent ticketing model to help people buy tickets quickly and conveniently at a decent price. Increase business efficiency, expand passenger rail transport’s market share.
Improve service quality, then building a new image for Vietnam Railways.
Solutions provided by FPT
The E-ticket system is designed on the principle of providing multiple channels to sell tickets and making it easy for anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Referring to the systems of experienced passenger railway partners in Japan and Germany and balancing that against the reality of Vietnam Railways, FPT built an e-ticket system that has three core modules:
- Auto stage cut
- Auto seating channel
- Auto fare regulation
The project is to be completed in three stages:
- Phase 1: build and install the system within 120 days of the date the contract is signed
- Phase 2: provide an e-ticket system available on VNR’s website for one year, starting November 21, 2014.
- Phase 3: offer a complete e- ticket system for six years starting November 21, 2015.
Results of Phase 1 and 2
After 110 days of construction and installation, the e-ticket system of VNR was officially put into operation on November 11, 2014.
As of 07 h on December 22, 2014 the result was:
- The total number of sold tickets was 273,432 ones, 162,048 (about 59.3%) of which are purchased through the e-ticket system.
- The system records access to the website to buy tickets in all 64 cities and provinces. Average ticket sales rate is 8,820 tickets /day.
Client feedback and satisfaction
In a report to the Ministry of Transport dated December 12, the VNR leader wrote: "The e-ticket system built by FPT with a friendly, convenient and transparent interface that helped people find tickets in a short time so they could make their travel plans for the 2015 Tet holiday. The system helped prevent ticket speculation because information about train tickets being sold in a single ticket warehouse was visible to all on the Internet. It helped the Vietnam Railways Corporation to quickly meet the needs of the ticket selling situation so that appropriate manufacturing and operations plans could be made and production efficiency improved to increase revenue of the industry."
FPT is currently upgrading and completing the system while VNR is validating the legal framework and policies. In the future, the system will be even more convenient for people when e-tickets are allowed to come into use. Passengers will need to go to the station only one time for procedures before departure. Other forms of payment (via cards, ATMs, payment agent, e-wallet, etc.) will be upgraded to simplify payment, maximizing convenience for the people.
