FPT Aspires to Collaborate with NVIDIA in Establishing Vietnam as a Hub for Attracting AI Talent

In a two-day business trip from December 10 to 11, the Chairman and CEO of NVIDIA, the globally esteemed chip manufacturing corporation boasting a market value nearing 1,200 billion USD, met with high-ranking officials of the Vietnam Government. He also participated in the seminar titled "Development Trends in the Semiconductor Industry, Artificial Intelligence, and Opportunities for Vietnam."
During the meeting with the Chairman of NVIDIA, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underscored the significance of integrating science, technology, and innovation as a pivotal new facet within the recently formed comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States. Consequently, there is an imperative to channel resources and intellect toward prioritized sectors aligned with Vietnam's focal points, with particular emphasis on the semiconductor industry. This sector, having existing cooperation agreements between Vietnam and the United States, facilitates Vietnam's substantial involvement in the global supply chain.

As outlined by the Prime Minister, the semiconductor industry holds significant potential for Vietnam, aligning well with the inherent qualities of the Vietnamese people. He urged NVIDIA to set a strategic and enduring vision for collaboration, pledging support to Vietnam in formulating and executing the national semiconductor strategy. This collaboration spans three key stages: chip design, construction of manufacturing facilities, and packaging and testing. The focus lies on joint efforts in infrastructure investment, establishing training facilities, research and development centers, facilities dedicated to developing semiconductor products and AI technology, big data centers with high-performance computing ability, and semiconductor engineering training programs in Vietnam.
Jensen Huang, President and CEO of NVIDIA, expressed profound appreciation for Vietnam's potential and the significant opportunities presented by its well-defined strategy, vision, approach, and emphasis on infrastructure investment in the semiconductor and AI sectors. He particularly highlighted Vietnam's abundant labor force in these domains, acknowledging it as a valuable asset.
During the seminar on "Development Trends in the Semiconductor Industry, Artificial Intelligence, and Opportunities for Vietnam," the Chairman of NVIDIA outlined Vietnam's potential opportunities. He also emphasized three key factors to harness the upcoming significant advancements.
"For the first time, we can create artificial intelligence (AI), utilizing the most abundant resource that enables large-scale AI production, which can now become the new infrastructure for society and industries. It marks an extraordinary opportunity for Vietnam. With excellent preparation, this is your moment. It is an immensely opportune time for both sides to launch a strategic partnership. We will deepen our current collaboration with Vietnam, undoubtedly contributing to the future of AI in Vietnam. We are dedicated to making Vietnam our second homeland and establishing a legal entity in the country," expressed Mr. Jensen Huang.
Simultaneously, Mr. Jensen Huang underlined three critical factors for Vietnam to ride the wave: Digital Vietnam, AI, and AI Infrastructure - supercomputers.

At the seminar, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung highlighted Vietnam's advantages in developing the semiconductor and AI industries. He committed to providing favorable conditions for NVIDIA to operate in the country and urged the company to engage in research and implement semiconductor and AI investment projects in Vietnam. The minister encouraged cooperation in establishing R&D centers and design laboratories for developing Nvidia's chip products at the National Innovation Center (NIC) and high-tech parks.
In two working sessions with NVIDIA's Chairman and CEO, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT, emphasized that AI, chip, and electronic technologies play a crucial role in propelling Vietnam forward to compete with advanced countries globally.
Mr. Binh expressed his desire to collaborate with NVIDIA to make Vietnam a hub for attracting global talent in AI and semiconductors. This collaboration aims to contribute to the growth of the semiconductor and AI ecosystem, foster innovative startups, and advance the design and development of supercomputers.
Semiconductor chips and AI are pivotal areas for FPT in the coming years. The company strategically focuses on advancing in these domains through investments, research initiatives, platform and solution development, and collaborations with leading global organizations. Additionally, FPT is committed to human resource development in these fields.
In the realm of AI, FPT has made substantial investments across various facets, including personnel, infrastructure, data, and research. The company has actively participated in the global AI alliance initiated by IBM and Meta, formulated research strategies in collaboration with the prominent AI research institute Mila, and invested in Landing AI. The Corporation also boasts AI products with millions of users worldwide.
Regarding the semiconductor industry, FPT has successfully transitioned its IC chip products from R&D to mass production. The Corporation has secured orders for 70 million chips worldwide, extending through 2025. FPT is actively engaged in the comprehensive training of 10,000 professionals, facilitated by strategic partnerships with Silvaco (USA). Furthermore, its commitment to the industry includes collaborations with the National Innovation Center (NIC), American technology expert organization TreSemi, and a partnership with UK educational organization Pearson to launch semiconductor technology training programs in Vietnam. Moreover, FPT Education has launched the Semiconductor Department, poised to admit its inaugural batch of students in 2024.
NVIDIA is a global technology company specializing in the design of graphics processing units (GPUs), application programming interfaces (APIs) for data science and high-performance computing, and systems on a chip (SoC) for the mobile and automotive computing markets. The company has a market value of 1,200 billion USD, nearly three times higher than Vietnam's GDP.
