FPT Artificial Intelligence Expert Appointed as Professor in the UK

Mr. Tran Thanh Long, an AI expert at the Quy Nhon Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Center (QAI) of FPT Software, a subsidiary of FPT Corporation, has recently been promoted to Professor at Warwick University in the United Kingdom.

Excited about his achievements, Mr. Long expressed: "I am deeply grateful to my friends, colleagues, and advisors who have continuously supported and guided me to reach this position. This recognition is gratifying and will motivate me to continue striving forward. There are still many goals I want to achieve, and this promotion strengthens my resolve and determination."

After many years of developing his career in the UK, Mr. Tran Thanh Long harbored a strong desire to apply AI technology practically in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he found a perfect match at FPT, where he connected with colleagues who shared his ideals. Together, they embarked on community-beneficial projects and are united in their ambition to establish an "AI valley" in Quy Nhon.

Mr. Tran Thanh Long officially joined FPT in February 2022. He became the lead research expert and advisor on Artificial Intelligence for QAI's entire product system, including akaCam, akaOCR, and others. He is responsible for consulting on building product development strategies at QAI - FPT Software.

Together with FPT, Google Research awarded Mr. Tran Thanh Long a non-refundable grant to collaborate with AfriScout, a non-governmental organization (NGO), on deploying a comprehensive AI-based grassland management solution in Africa. Mr. Long and the FPT expert team perfected the solution, developed the platform, and successfully applied it to over two million African farmers, significantly enhancing the efficiency of cattle grazing in arid regions.

After presenting at the "AI for Social Good" conference organized by Google Research, Mr. Long's AI Land Use Optimization project won the "Most Impactful Award," becoming one of the three most successful projects of the event. This recognition has led to the realization of product development ideas aimed at solving core problems in agriculture, healthcare, and education through QAI's solution packages, including akaCam and akaMedic products.

During his scientific research career, Mr. Tran Thanh Long has published over 80 papers at top AI/ML conferences such as AAAI, AAMAS, CVPR, ECAI, IJCAI, NeurIPS, UAI, and WWW, as well as in journals like JAAMAS and AIJ. His tireless dedication has earned him prestigious international awards, including honors at top AI conferences like AAAI and ECAI, two Best Doctoral Thesis Awards in the UK and Europe, and the AIJ Outstanding Reporting Award. Additionally, Mr. Long is the author of a highly influential article in a leading AI journal.

At Warwick University, Mr. Tran Thanh Long holds the position of Research Director and Deputy Head of the Department of Computer Science. He is an honorary member of the Board of Directors of IFAAMAS (The International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems) for the 2018-2024 term. He has served as the UK chair for the AAMAS conferences in 2021 and 2023, which are leading events in the AI community.

Starting August 1, Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Long will be teaching Data Science at Warwick University while continuing his work at FPT.
