Timor-Leste 'Future Leaders' Delegation Visits FPT

Eleven future leaders from Timor-Leste participated in a company tour at FPT Corporation. The initiative aimed to familiarize the delegation with FPT's core operations, innovation initiatives, international partnerships, and commitment to sustainable development.

Present at the meeting were Mr. Le Hong Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Corporate Directors (VACD), and a representative from the Timor-Leste Embassy in Vietnam. Representing FPT was Mr. Vo Dang Phat, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO) of FPT Corporation.

During the meeting, Mr. Le Hong Phuc, Head Coach of the delegation, highlighted that the visit to FPT was part of the Timor-Leste Government's initiative to enhance leadership capabilities among future ASEAN leaders.

He emphasized that Timor-Leste, as a new country in ASEAN, is in the process of becoming an official member and is actively preparing a team of young leaders who are connected with ASEAN. Following their training program, outstanding members are grouped into nine teams to engage with various Asian countries.

During their visit to Vietnam, the delegation aimed to understand Vietnam's development trajectory over recent decades and glean insights applicable to Timor-Leste's growth. Members represented diverse sectors, including government agencies, the private sector, universities, and institutes. They also sought to establish potential relationships and foster connections for future collaborations across various industries.

"FPT is among Vietnam's foremost corporations, engaged in diverse fields and industries, and recognized as a leading technology company. FPT places significant emphasis on digital transformation and sustainable development, which are areas of particular interest to the group of future leaders from Timor-Leste", Mr. Phuc said.

The Head of the Timor-Leste delegation noted similarities with Vietnam, highlighting that despite a smaller population, "50% of the population is in their 20s, representing a youthful demographic." During the meeting, discussions covered various topics, including AI, products and services, IT, and strategic vision. Both sides engaged in detailed exchanges characterized by a spirit of inquiry and mutual exploration.

Responding to questions about AI, cybersecurity, and other topics, FPT's CMCO emphasized that the Corporation strictly adheres to data security policies. The Corporation also provides cybersecurity services to numerous clients.

Discussing regional cooperation opportunities, Mr. Phat highlighted that FPT is collaborating on IT projects to digitize governments in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and beyond. He expressed optimism about future collaboration between FPT and Timor-Leste in IT and digital transformation. Such partnership aims to streamline government processes, attract investors, and boost tourism in Timor-Leste.

The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, is located in Southeast Asia, encompassing an area of over 15,000 km2. It comprises the northeastern and western parts of the island of Timor, along with the adjacent islands of Atauro and Jaco. The western part of the island of Timor belongs to Indonesia. To the east and north, East Timor is in proximity to Indonesian islands, while its southern border is adjacent to Australia, separated by the Timor Sea.

East Timor's capital is Dili. It is the youngest country in Southeast Asia, having gained independence in 2002. The current population of East Timor exceeds 1.3 million.
