As data volumes continue to grow at an unprecedented pace, businesses are facing not only storage challenges but also the need to process data flexibly and in real time. This is one of the key reasons why next-generation database management systems such as MongoDB are attracting increasing attention.
What is MongoDB and Why Is It Gaining Attention?
MongoDB is a database management system, but unlike traditional databases, it does not store information in tables consisting of rows and columns. Instead, MongoDB uses a document-based model, allowing data to be stored in a flexible format similar to JSON structures. This approach enables organizations to efficiently handle complex and constantly evolving data, a common requirement in modern applications such as e-commerce, digital finance, and artificial intelligence.
After more than a decade of development, MongoDB now accounts for approximately 45.32% of the NoSQL database market, serving over 56,000 customers worldwide and becoming one of today's most widely used data platforms. Major enterprises including eBay, Adobe, and Google have incorporated MongoDB into their technology ecosystems.

In Vietnam, MongoDB has also been widely adopted by the software development community, particularly through its open-source version. Meanwhile, the Enterprise edition provides additional capabilities in security, performance optimization, and large-scale data processing.
To address growing market demand, FPT Cloud has launched FPT MongoDB Enterprise, a service built on MongoDB's premium commercial edition. The solution offers advanced features such as data encryption, access control, system auditing, and flexible scalability based on business requirements. In addition, its integration capabilities with data analytics and artificial intelligence services make it well suited for modern enterprise systems.
When Data Surges: Challenges for E-commerce and Logistics
In the logistics and e-commerce sectors, traffic volumes often fluctuate significantly during seasonal peaks and promotional events. As a result, systems must be capable of scaling rapidly without disrupting service availability.
Ahamove is a notable example. The platform currently serves more than 2.5 million customers and processes over 200,000 orders per day. During major holidays such as Lunar New Year, order volumes can increase by as much as 200% within a short period.

According to company representatives, MongoDB's flexible scalability enables the platform to handle sudden spikes in demand while maintaining system performance, ultimately improving the customer experience.
MongoDB's applications extend beyond e-commerce into the financial sector, where organizations must process large transaction volumes while complying with stringent data governance and regulatory requirements.
VPBank was among the first banks in Vietnam to deploy MongoDB for its OpenAPI platform in 2020. Today, the platform includes more than 220 microservices and processes over 100 million transactions each month.

The adoption of MongoDB has enabled the bank to enhance data processing flexibility, scale systems according to demand, and manage data in real time.
For financial institutions operating in Vietnam, local data residency requirements are also a critical consideration. Solutions such as FPT MongoDB Enterprise are designed to meet these requirements while providing additional capabilities including data encryption, continuous backup, and point-in-time recovery, helping organizations minimize operational risks.
From logistics and banking to insurance, manufacturing, and retail, MongoDB is being used to address a wide range of business challenges, from real-time data analytics to AI application development. Across industries, a common realization is emerging: data is no longer simply an operational cost but a core business capability. In this context, selecting the right data platform plays a decisive role in maintaining competitiveness.
With its flexibility and scalability, MongoDB is becoming one of the most compelling options supporting the digital transformation journeys of Vietnamese enterprises.
