The drastic direction of the government, the cooperation of technology enterprises as well as the efforts of the healthcare industry have initially brought out "the sweetness" for people. However, the digital transformation in healthcare is facing many barriers, the first problem is the data.

Prime time to speed up the digital transformation in  the healthcare industry

According to the Ministry of Health, by the end of 2019, 100% of hospitals have deployed computerization, digitizing medical consolation and treatment and hospital management; 99.5% of health facilities nationwide have been linked with the social insurance assessment system. In 2019, the Ministry will also pilot many smart medical applications such as electronic medical records to replace paper medical records; electronic personal health record management software; pharmacy management and link software.

To achieve these achievements, the prerequisite factor is the legal corridor for the application of IT in healthcare. Besides, technologies applied in healthcare have made rapid progress. 4.0 technologies were soon tested and implemented in practice in Vietnam such as 3D printing technology, solutions to support remote diagnosis with artificial intelligence (AI), robotic surgery systems, Telemedicine (for grassroots levels, remote medical activities).

Mr. Ly Duc Doan, Director of FPT Digital Health Center, shared his speech at the Conference

This can be considered prime time to accelerate the digital transformation in the healthcare industry, heading to a digital country. However, sharing at the seminar themed "Digital transformation in public healthcare " within the framework of Vietnam e-Government conference and expo 2020 (eGov) on September 17th, many health leaders and experts as well as business representatives said that the DX journey of healthcare sector in Vietnam is still facing many barriers, one of which is decentralized data.

Digital data storage model - the key to make breakthroughs in healthcare

Large data sources from hospitals and clinics are diverse, including personal data, disease parameter values, clinical notes, diagnostic images, epidemiological data and patient behavior, etc. However, due to the lack of uniform standards, the lack of a unified storage system, this valuable data source such as "oil field" is still mainly non-structured and decentralized. It has not been exploited effectively to improve the quality of health care.

During the seminar, Mr. Ly Duc Doan, Director of FPT Digital Health Center, introduced the trend of digital transformation model in healthcare - “Digital data storage model for public healthcare in Vietnam”.

This is a data-oriented health information system model with the core of the Health Information Switching Axis - which functions as a platform to connect and share data horizontally (between local medical centers) and vertically (healthcare facilities with the Ministry of Health). As a result, all huge data sources from hospitals, testing centers, radiology diagnostics, clinics, pharmacies, private medical facilities are chained and standardized into one source.

Based on real-time data warehouse, state management departments, ministry leaders, local healthcare departments can provide models of disease warning, expenditure management, and monitoring of contingencies, as well as actively deploy new services to serve people. Doctors can access it to keep track of all patient medical records from downline, helping to make more accurate medical orders. Residents also enjoy higher quality services and a better experience, saving time and money.

The model of medical data connection, standardization and creation proposed by FPT

Mr. Doan affirms: “The people are the most benefited from this model. On the basis of shared data of the health sector, people will be provided with an electronic medical book to connect and use all medical services of the hospital, from register online, receive results to pay hospital fees. For example, in Ho Chi Minh City, the City Department of Health has exploited this platform to provide information to people about substandard clinics, information about disease warning, etc."

According to FPT's representative, this model is also used to support the development of remote health care, allowing people in remote areas to access high-quality medical services right at the facilities in that area. This is one of the solutions suitable to the complicated development of Covid-19, also one of the measures to help reduce the load for central hospitals.
