FPT awards driverless cars to teams

The eight best teams were selected to attend the final round. They come from VNU University of Engineering and Technology, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, FPT University, VNU-HCM University of Information Technology, Academy of Military Technology and HCM City University of Technologyand Lac Hong University.

The qualifying rounds of Digital Race organized by FPT Corporation attracted the participation of 71 teams from 16 universities nationwide.

In the qualifying rounds, the students had to complete 2 tasks: image processing and fast programming. For image processing, the Orgernisers offered one video. Within 30 minutes, they had to uses algorithms to finds best routes for cars. Scores were automatically weighted and the judges asked for more details to select 4 best teams for fast programming. Within 5 - 15 minutes, they must use their knowledge of image processing to solve problems.

As a member of the judges, Dr. Nguyen Thi Oanh, a lecturer of the Hanoi University of Technology, appreciated the contestants. "The teams showed their best performance. It is hard for the  judges to select the best teams as there are many students with good knowledge and skills".

When joining this contest, you will have the opportunity to collect the knowledge, as well as facilitate advanced research about the technology of image processing and algorithms control unmanned vehicles.

To support and facilitate teams before driverless car challenge, FPT awarded eight model cars to eight teams entering the final round.

Digital Race takes place from November 2016 to April 2017. The competition is open to all students worldwide. The total value of prizes is worth up to VND 700 million. They include the first prize worth VND 450 million (including a visit to Silicon Valley (US) and some kind); the second prize worth VND 30 million; two third prizes, each worth VND20 million; 08 prizes for best teams of the qualifying round, each worth VND 10 million. The university which the winner come from will receive VND 50 million in cash.
