FPT became the first foreign firm to receive an NFS (I) license in Myanmar

On July 8, 2015, the FPT Corporation officially became the first foreign enterprise to be granted a Network Facilities Service Individual license [NFS(I)] by the Myanmar Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The license is valid for 15 years and takes effect on July 6, 2015.

With this license, FPT is allowed to build a national axis infrastructure,  a firm step towards promoting Internet services in Myanmar. FPT can also provide local and international telecommunication services as well as build, deploy, maintain and lease telecommunication infrastructure and supply other value-added services on the network including Internet protocol television, online games, e-news, e-commerce, domain and hosting.

There are six large Myanmar domestic firms that now hold NFS(I) licenses. FPT is the first 100% foreign-owned company to receive this license from the Myanmar Government.
“Our capability and experience in providing telecom services in developing countries such as Cambodia and Vietnam and our long-term investment commitment helped FPT get the license,” said Mr. Duong Dung Trieu, FPT’s Vice General Director of Global Expansion.

The license for telecom services in Myanmar is essential for the development of FPT in this market and important in its strategy of global expansion. It will build a foundation for the corporation to provide other services such as software and integrated system services, education and e-government in that market.

It is expected that after receiving the license, FPT will deploy services such as connecting infrastructures of companies and factories from different areas; while simultaneously preparing for the construction of telecommunication infrastructure in order to exploit this potential market.

With a population of 56 million and current low-quality Internet service, Myanmar is considered a promising land for IT and telecom firms inside and outside the country. According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Myanmar's economic annual growth could be 9.5% by 2030.

Myanmar is one important market in FPT’s strategy for overseas expansion. In February 2013, the corporation opened its representative office and then went on to establish FPT Myanmar Co. Ltd. in July.

FPT Myanmar now employs 60 people, including 35 local staff members with a turnover of USD 13.5 million in 2014.
