FPT Chairman: AI to play a significant role in the pharmaceutical industry

On January 22 (local time) in Davos, Switzerland, as part of the Vietnamese delegation’s working trip to the World Economic Forum (WEF), high-ranking officials participated in a Dialogue with Global Pharmaceutical Corporations under the theme: "Vietnamese Pharmaceuticals in the Digital Age – The Future from Innovation and Technology." The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and FPT Corporation.
Present at the event were Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, along with leaders from various ministries, departments, and agencies. The event also welcomed representatives from major Vietnamese enterprises, including EVN, FPT, Techcombank, and VNPT, as well as executives from leading global pharmaceutical corporations such as AstraZeneca, Roche, Sanofi, Novartis, MSD, Pfizer, Merck, Sumitomo, Pharma Group, Takeda, and Ferring Pharmaceuticals.
Opening the event, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation, introduced Vietnam's strong investment potential, emphasizing the Government's comprehensive support and national strategic focus on technology and human resources. He also underscored that pharmaceuticals will be one of the industries most impacted by AI, particularly in vaccine and drug development. His remarks were based on FPT's decade-long experience in AI research and development. "With 10 years of experience in AI research and development and direct collaboration with leading organizations and experts in the field, we have witnessed countless breakthroughs driven by AI across various industries," Mr. Binh stated.
Opening the event, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation, underscored that pharmaceuticals will be one of the industries most impacted by AI, particularly in vaccine and drug development.
At the event, representatives from leading pharmaceutical corporations, including AstraZeneca, Roche, Sanofi, Novartis, MSD, Pfizer, Merck, Sumitomo, and Pharma Group, expressed strong appreciation for the enhancements in Vietnam's legal framework under the Pharmacy Law, which aims to increase patient access to new drugs and vaccines. They also welcomed Vietnam's clear commitment to advancing technological innovation, as Resolution 57 - NQ/TW outlined. Additionally, these corporate representatives shared insights into their investment projects in Vietnam, including: Clinical research initiatives; Technology transfer for pharmaceutical production; Public health improvement programs; The role of technology and innovation in medicine and pharmaceuticals. They also emphasized their commitment to strengthening collaboration and expanding investment in Vietnam to establish the country as a competitive pharmaceutical research and production hub.
Pharma Group representative, Mr. Burak Pekmezci, expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s ambitious GDP growth targets and its vision of becoming a developed, high-income nation by 2045, as outlined in Resolution 57-NQ/TW. He emphasized that with rapid advancements in science and technology, the pharmaceutical industry will play a crucial role in helping Vietnam achieve these objectives. Additionally, Mr. Burak Pekmezci reaffirmed Pharma Group’s commitment by outlining three key initiatives: Collaborating with the Ministry of Health to support the industry’s strategic goals; Sharing international best practices and models in science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation within the healthcare sector; Providing recommendations to improve the legal framework, helping Vietnam effectively implement the objectives of Resolution 57-NQ/TW.
In his closing remarks at the seminar, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen highlighted the crucial role of technology, particularly AI and data, in transforming healthcare, enabling people to live longer and healthier lives with greater well-being. He reaffirmed that the Vietnamese Government is committed to working closely with business leaders to implement the proposals discussed at the seminar, leveraging technological advancements to enhance public health. "Ho Chi Minh City will introduce pilot mechanisms that allow pharmaceutical businesses to implement their initiatives transparently, creating the foundation for nationwide expansion," the Secretary emphasized.

FPT's digital transformation solution for Long Chau Pharmacy has significantly improved the customer shopping experience across web, mobile, and in-store channels, reducing transaction times to an average of under 2.5 minutes per purchase. Additionally, it has enabled the pharmacy chain to efficiently manage multi-channel orders and optimize inventory, cutting out-of-stock rates by five times to less than 5%. Most recently, Long Chau Pharmacy and the Center for Research and Application of Population Data and Citizen Identification (RAR Center) under Department C06 – Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony to announce the integration of FPT Long Chau Pharmacy's electronic authentication service via VNeID. This collaboration introduces a safe and convenient online medicine purchasing service, leveraging an app-to-app connection between Long Chau Pharmacy and VNeID. The online medicine purchasing feature within VNeID is part of the electronic health record system designed to streamline the healthcare process for citizens. This essential feature empowers users to manage their medical history, prescriptions, and drug purchases directly through VNeID.
