FPT Pledges Support for Da Nang to Become Vietnam's Leading Semiconductor Hub

On August 30, FPT IS Company Limited, a subsidiary of FPT Corporation, signed a strategic partnership with the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang City. This collaboration aims to boost R&D investment in technology and resources within the semiconductor and AI sectors and establish Da Nang as a prominent technology hub in Vietnam.

Semicon Da Nang 2024 took place on August 29-30 at the Ariyana International Convention Palace in Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang. The event was graced by representatives from government leaders, various ministries and branches, foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam, central city agencies, domestic and international business associations, and partners involved in investment promotion activities.

In his opening speech, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Danang, said: "The semiconductor industry is a high-value sector with projected revenues of 620 billion USD in 2024, set to surge to 1,000 billion USD by 2030. Vietnam is well-positioned to tap into this lucrative market due to its numerous opportunities and advantages. Da Nang City, in particular, stands out with its skilled workforce, well-developed technical infrastructure, and excellent transportation links. Moreover, the strong support from government leaders and the proactive efforts of local authorities in establishing a favorable legal framework and investment incentives are key to advancing the semiconductor industry in the region".

"With the aim of leading and accelerating the development of human resources for Vietnam's semiconductor industry, Da Nang is eager to engage with investors, businesses, and experts with their input in shaping the industry's development, establishing an open investment environment with supportive mechanisms and incentives. This approach is designed to create swift and effective investment opportunities, fostering growth and innovation in the semiconductor sector", he affirmed.

With a pledge to help Da Nang become a key hub for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and the region, FPT IS signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Department of Information and Communications, Da Nang City, at the event. This partnership aims to harness Da Nang's potential and strengths in microchips, collaboratively develop initiatives and solutions for training top-tier talent and advanced technologies, and ultimately attract meaningful investment to the city.

Specifically, FPT IS will support Da Nang in several key areas: training human resources, offering scholarships, and providing internship opportunities for students from Da Nang universities. Additionally, FPT IS will establish a Research and Development Center at Da Nang City's Software Park No. 2. This center will focus on creating IT products, researching semiconductor technology, and advancing AI, driving growth in these tech fields throughout the city.

At the event, FPT IS leaders emphasized their commitment, stating: "Leveraging our experience with designing "Make in Vietnam - Made by FPT" chips and our expert team at the R&D center in Da Nang, we are dedicated to helping the city achieve its goal of becoming one of Vietnam's top three semiconductor hubs."

In the semiconductor field, FPT stands out as the first Vietnamese company to design commercial chips, with a remarkable 70 million chip orders from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. The Corporation collaborates with numerous global organizations and companies. On the resource development front, FPT offers a range of training programs in the chip sector, from university and college courses to short-term programs and cooperative training with leading international experts. The Corporation partners with global universities, offering students the chance to study in Vietnam and abroad and opportunities to gain practical experience with international companies. This approach not only accelerates the expansion of skilled resources but also supports the Vietnamese Government's ambitious goal of training 50,000 to 100,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030.

In addition, FPT has been a critical player in Da Nang City's development for nearly 20 years. Notably, FPT established the FPT Complex, a dedicated IT park that, in March 2023, was officially recognized by the Prime Minister as the first IT park in Da Nang, funded by private enterprise capital. FPT Complex accounts for 69% of the city's total software export turnover and is crucial in drawing high-quality talent across the region. By June 2024, the FPT Education Organization in Da Nang had trained 15,620 students. Additionally, FPT has been actively involved in a broad digital transformation partnership with Da Nang. Together, they have worked on developing a smart city, focusing on various sectors, including transportation, education, environmental resources, health, agriculture, industry, trade, and communications.

In 2023, FPT IS launched an R&D Center in Da Nang City with an ambitious goal: to build a team of 500 product development experts within three years and to create 15 new product lines. This center aims to help FPT and FPT IS swiftly and effectively tackle specialized digital transformation challenges. It also aims to foster and attract technology talent, positioning Da Nang as a hub for innovative tech products with the potential to excel in domestic and international markets.
