FPT Partners with the National Center for Semiconductor Chip Prototyping Support to Advance the Make in Vietnam Semiconductor Ecosystem

The Ministry of Science and Technology recently inaugurated the Vietnam National Multi-Project Wafer Coordination Center (VNMPW/CC). During the ceremony, VNMPW/CC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FPT Corporation. The partnership marks an important milestone in strengthening Vietnam’s semiconductor research and manufacturing capabilities while advancing the nation’s ambition to master the Make in Vietnam semiconductor value chain in support of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.

The Vietnam National Multi-Project Wafer Coordination Center (VNMPW/CC) is a public service unit under the Information Technology Industry Agency of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Center was established to address one of the key bottlenecks in Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem by bridging chip design, prototype fabrication, testing, evaluation, and commercialization.

Its mission is to coordinate semiconductor research and design projects from universities, research institutes, enterprises, and startups; connect domestic stakeholders with wafer fabrication facilities, packaging, and testing service providers both in Vietnam and abroad; and support prototype production through the Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) model. This approach helps reduce production costs, shorten development cycles, improve design verification, and accelerate the commercialization of Make in Vietnam semiconductor products.

The establishment of VNMPW/CC represents a significant step toward implementing Vietnam’s Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, positioning the country among the few Southeast Asian nations with national-level semiconductor prototyping infrastructure.

During the launch ceremony, VNMPW/CC signed cooperation agreements with 19 domestic and international partners, including FPT. Under the MoU, the two organizations will collaborate across several strategic areas to strengthen Vietnam’s semiconductor research, design, and prototyping capabilities.

First, the two parties will jointly conduct research and design of strategic, application-specific semiconductor chips.

Second, VNMPW/CC will support FPT in tape-out, packaging, and testing services for semiconductor chips designed by FPT, in accordance with the Center’s production plans and operational capabilities.

Third, FPT will help connect VNMPW/CC with global semiconductor foundries, Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) service providers, and domestic and international outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) companies to facilitate manufacturing of Vietnamese chip designs.

Finally, FPT will support the Center in expanding international cooperation by introducing and connecting VNMPW/CC with semiconductor enterprises, research organizations, industry associations, universities, R&D centers, and partners across the global semiconductor ecosystem.

VNMPW/CC announces the establishment of its Semiconductor Advisory Board.

As part of the event, the Center also announced the formation of its Semiconductor Advisory Board. Representatives from FPT joined leading experts from global technology companies, universities, and research institutes to provide strategic and technical guidance for the Center as well as for Vietnamese universities, research institutions, and enterprises.

At the accompanying exhibition, FPT showcased its Power IC, a key product within the Make in Vietnam – Made by FPT semiconductor ecosystem. The chip has successfully completed electrical characterization, stability, load endurance, and JEDEC reliability testing, while complying with chemSHERPA chemical substance declaration standards. It has also been successfully exported to Japan as a replacement for existing semiconductor products.

FPT also introduced its FPT Access Control (FAS) solutions, including:

  • FAS02 – an access control device featuring facial recognition integrated with electronic identity verification using national ID cards, e-passports, and NFC-enabled cards.
  • FAS06 – a mobile identity verification device designed for field operations, capable of reading and authenticating chip-based national ID cards, e-passports, and other electronic identity documents.

With more than a decade of investment in Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, FPT has built a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem spanning chip design, packaging, testing, and talent development, contributing to Vietnam’s ambition of becoming a regional semiconductor hub.

The Corporation is developing key semiconductor products, including Power ICs and Power Management ICs (PMICs), while expanding research into AI-on-Edge System-on-Chip (SoC) technologies. At the same time, FPT is investing heavily in talent development through a multi-tier education system and international partnerships, targeting the training of 10,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030.

FPT has also established the High-Tech and Semiconductor Center in Da Nang and the Vietnam Semiconductor Incubation & Innovation Center (V.S.I.C) in Hanoi. In December 2025, FPT became the first Vietnamese company to commercially export semiconductor chips to Japan, reinforcing its position in the global semiconductor value chain.

In early 2026, FPT launched its Advanced Semiconductor Testing and Packaging Factory, aiming to strengthen the domestic semiconductor value chain and contribute to Vietnam’s national strategy for mastering core and sovereign technologies under Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, Decision No. 1131/QD-TTg, and Decision No. 1018/QD-TTg, while integrating Vietnam more deeply into the global semiconductor supply chain.

Beyond semiconductors, FPT is making strategic investments in five core technology domains: Quantum AI, Cybersecurity, UAVs, Data, and Railway Technologies. These initiatives underscore the Corporation’s long-term commitment to mastering strategic technologies and developing high-quality talent in support of Vietnam’s technological sovereignty.
