FPT granted first technology patent

The first patent of FPT, named "Identification system of move and click of fingers in virtual space", was granted and protected by National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam under Ministry of Science and Technology.

The first technology patent of FPT.

Technology Research Institute of FPT University (under FPT) completed this invention and submitted an application for a patent in January 2011. In the same year, there were 301 patent applications to be filed.

This patent is considered as the first step in the journey to confirm the research capacity of FPT University, as well as shows FPT’s focus on R & D activities.

As disclosed by Tran The Trung, Director of FPT Technology Research Institute, the patent supports users in interacting with smart devices in a quicker and more convenient way. Manipulation without contact with devices also helps reduce the risk of spreading skin-contact diseases as the device is shared by many people.

Annually, the number of patents granted to universities nationwide is only 5. This invention is among 25 ones submitted to National Office of Intellectual Property by FPT Technology Research Institute . It is expected that 18 more applications will be filed in 2014.

Since 2011, FPT University has implemented policies to reward those whose researches are published in magazines under ISI Journal Standard List and ISI Journal Expanded List . In 2012, R&D activities of the Institute also make an impression as F-1 satellite, the first home-made satellite of Vietnam, was launched and delivered to International Space Station (ISS).

Every year, FPT spends 5% of pre-tax profit on R & D activities. Particularly in 2013, FPT approved R & D projects of its member units with a total budget of nearly VND 50 billion.
