FPT partners with VASS to build Vietnam’s open encyclopedia

On October 1^st, in the framework of “Digital Vietnamese knowledge system” project, “Connecting millions of hearts” program launched digital platforms in the fields of education, healthcare, and culture. The encyclopedia project by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and FPT Technology Research Institute (FTRI) was considered as a highlight. The project is expected to promote the contribution of all the people to the digital knowledge system, improving the quality of human resources, for the development of the digital society and the digital nation.

The compilation of the Encyclopedia of Vietnam was approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 1262/QD-TTg on July 28^th, 2014. The Encyclopedia of Vietnam comprises 38 volumes, covering social sciences and humanities, culture and arts, natural sciences, technology and engineering science, defense science, diplomacy, security etc.

The encyclopedia project, which can be accessed at bktt.vn, is carried out by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and FPT Technology Research Institute (FTRI) on an open source platform.

This is also the first time that Vietnam has built a platform that synthesizes, systematizes, stores, and disseminates knowledge of the country and world in a digital environment.

Bktt.vn will offer the people the opportunity to research, search, study and contribute knowledge, contributing to heightening people's intellect.

FTRI Director Tran The Trung signed the cooperation agreement with the representatives of the Digital Vietnamese Knowledge System project and Office of the Project on compilation of the Vietnam encyclopedia (under VASS).

The FTRI will mobilize community resources to build and operate the infrastructure and technology solutions, as well as encouraging people, especially the intellectual, to participate in the compilation of the open encyclopedia.

The VASS will review and make suitable adjustments to the information provided by the community and decide whether the contributions will become the official content of the encyclopedia.

The objective during the first phase of the project is to create 60,000 high-quality entries that are regularly updated by the official editorial board. After a printed version of the Vietnamese encyclopedia is published, its content will be posted online under the government's decision for people to look up.
