FPT Software aims at planting 20,000 trees globally

FPT Software held a tree planting event with more than 3,000 trees in Hanoi and a running race for more than 2,000 IT people working in the IT field at Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park. This is one of the activities of Run For Green Campaign by FPT Software on occasion of its 20th anniversary.

Launched since August, ‘Run for Green’ sets to be an annual running event to promote a greener lifestyle among the company. Just two months after launch, nearly 7,000 employees around the world have engaged in the “Run for Green” initiative. They completed 1 million km, equivalent to more than 20 earth circles and 20,000 trees. Those who ran 100km or more will have their name tag hang on with the trees.

More than 3,000 trees for Hanoi are planted along Lang-Hoa Lac expressway and in the campus of Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, contributing to reducing environmental pollution and creating a green office space.

Earlier, within the framework of the project to plant 10,000 pidada trees in the area of Dinh An estuary, FPT Software cooperated with Green Happiness planting 2,000 trees. The planting will increase the area of mangrove forests in sea-dyke protection, protect the environment and biodiversity. At the same time, pidada fruits and aquaculture will increase the opportunities for local people's livelihoods development. FPT Japan planted 200 cherry blossom trees in Naganno village. Up to now, FPT Software has planted about 6,000 out of 20,000 trees globally.

Besides FPT Software staff, Run For Green was joined by IT students of some universities and people from a number of technology companies in Hanoi. On October 18, more than 2,000 students and people engaged in IT participated in a running race in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park with race categories: 5km, 10km and 20km. This run offered many appealing prizes worth up to VND 100 million.

As climate change is taking place now, planting trees and expanding forest area are some of the effective solutions to curb global warming. An IPCC Special Report states that additional adding 1 billion hectares of forests will help limit global warming to 1.5° C by 2050.
