FPT University officially exports ViOlympic to Laos

On November 15, FPT University in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR held a launching ceremony of Math contest online in Laos called Laolympic. This is the first time FPT has "exported" Violympic, marking an important step on the journey to internationalize this contest.

On November 15, FPT University in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR held a launching ceremony of Math contest online in Laos called Laolympic. This is the first time FPT has "exported" Violympic, marking an important step on the journey to internationalize this contest.

The event was attended by Director of Educational Standards and Quality Assurance Center Mr. Vanhsay Noraseng, Assistant Minister of Education and Sports of Lao PDR Mr. Thongphiew Boutsady, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of FPT Corporation Ms. Truong Thanh Thanh, Director of ViOlympic Center, FPT University Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, CEO of Star Telecom (Unitel - Viettel Laos) Mr. Cao Anh Son and the leaders of ministries and departments of education and more than 400 students from Laos.

After 09 years, ViOlympic Math Contest Online has gained certain success in helping millions of students improve their knowledge and access modern information technology, promoting ICT application to teaching and learning programs. Since 2016, FPT officially brought the contest to Laos with the desire to help transmit and enrich knowledge, enhance skills, building a strong intellectual foundation for the younger generation in Laos.

Some Laos’ students joined the contest at the ceremony.

Accordingly, FPT will provide, deploy and maintain the system, ensuring that at most 100,000 accounts can access the system at the same time. It is responsible for the content and the quality of exam. It will also partner with the Ministry of Education and Training in Lao PDR to make plan as well as give detailed instructions on how to deploy the competition at all levels.

Laolympic includes Mathematics contests in both English and Laos for students in grades 1 to 12. In addition, many side events will be organized to bring the competition closer to the community, especially Laos’ students in love with math. It is expected that Laolympic will attract at least 70% of Laos’ students to join.

Officially launched in 2008, ViOlympic has become a useful playground which inspires the learning of Mathematics. The competition also makes contribution to incubating and growing young talents, especially students in remote areas. It offers students throughout the country equal opportunities to access information technology, helping them with rapid integration into international education.

2016 marked a turning point in the development of this competition with the organization of the contest ViOlympic in Laos. The first "export" success Violympic - pure Vietnamese educational programs, Own Vietnam implementation will lay the groundwork for the introduction of pure Vietnamese educational products moving steadily into the international market. It is also an important activity in the strategic direction of globalization of FPT Corporation.

According to Ms. Truong Thanh Thanh, after implementing the program in Laos, FPT also expected that the Violympic would be implemented in other countries in the region. "FPT is making Violympic internationalization plan. That another country deploys the contest offers another opportunity to Violympic. At the same time, Vietnam’s education product is also introduced to the international education”.

Unitel (Viettel Laos) will be responsible for providing servers, transmission lines and load distribution system, helping with customer care and side events.

ViOlympic is a national online competition in Mathematics and Science guided by the Ministry of Education and Training and held by FPT Corporation and FPT University. The contest is open to students in grades 1- 12 across the country. Up to now, the competition has attracted nearly 21 million members, spreading to over 700 districts in 63 provinces and cities nationwide.
