FPT Student Honored at Oxford Big Read Global

Lai Anh Khoi, a student from FPT School Cau Giay (Hanoi), has been honored at Oxford Big Read Global 2025, affirming the academic capabilities of Vietnamese students on an international stage organized by Oxford University Press.

Oxford Big Read Global 2025 is an international English reading competition designed to encourage learners to develop language skills, expand knowledge, and foster a spirit of exploration through reading English books.

This year, the competition attracted strong participation, with thousands of entries from students across countries and territories including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, and India.

After a rigorous evaluation process, the organizers awarded a total of six highest global prizes. Vietnam secured two of these six awards, with FPT Schools’ representative winning the top prize in Category 3 for a critical analysis of the book Madame Marie Tells the Future.

The remaining awards were presented to representatives from China (three prizes, including one Winner and two Runner-up awards) and Thailand (one Runner-up award).

Anh Khoi’s submission was entered in Category 3: Critical Review or Comparative Essay. In this category, participants read a book published by Oxford University Press and wrote a critical analysis of its themes, plot, and characters, or conducted a comparative analysis between two works.

This category requires advanced reading comprehension, critical thinking, and strong academic reasoning—key competencies in international learning environments. Reflecting on the experience, Anh Khoi shared: “After the competition, I realized that each story can be interpreted in many different ways. When reading, I not only absorb the content but also ask questions about the plot and the characters’ motivations. The book I chose helped me understand that every child is a unique world and deserves respect for their differences. The competition not only improved my reading and writing skills but also helped me grow.”

Before advancing to the global stage, FPT students had already made a strong impression at the Oxford Big Read 2025 Vietnam round, winning 11 awards, including two Winners and nine Finalists out of a total of 23 prizes, creating a solid foundation for their success at the global level.
