More than 2100 students honored at ViOlympic award ceremony 2015-2016

On May 14, the ViOlympic award ceremony 2015-2016 in the North region took place in Hanoi. More than 2,100 excellent pupils were honored at the event.

On May 14, the ViOlympic award ceremony 2015-2016 in the North region took place in Hanoi. More than 2,100 excellent pupils were honored at the event. The online mathematic contest called ViOlympic has been hosted by FPT University – FPT Corporation with the support from Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training since 2008. 

The award ceremony in Hanoi is only a prelude to a series of events to be held in all three regions to honor pupils with excellent achievements as well as encourage math learning across the country.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien, the representatives of departments and numerous teachers and outstanding pupils from the provinces in the North. In particular, this is the first time the event has been joined by the representatives from Australia and Mongolia, in which pupils achieved better performance in Global ViOlympic Contest 2016.

At the ceremony, the 2141 winners were honored, including 244 pupils in grade 4; 554 pupils in grade 5; 250 pupils in grade 8, 590 pupils in grade 9 and 503 pupils in grade 11.

FPT Corporation gave 24 Samsung tablets to Top 3 of 8 groups. FPT University awarded 03 scholarships (each worth VND 280 million) to three grade 11 pupils with good performance.

Rector of FPT University Dam Quang Minh is awarding 03 scholarships to  03 grade 11 pupils with good performance.

In the academic year 2015 - 2016, 6 million of about 8 million participants took Vietnamese Mathematics exam (up 20% compared to the 2014-2015 school year) and 2 million ones took English Math exam (doubled compared to 2014 to 2015). At the same time, after 18 rounds (Vietnamese Mathematics Contest) and 9 rounds (English Mathematics Contest), the national round attracted nearly 9,180 pupils nationwide, an increase of more than 22% compared to 7,500 pupils in 2014-2015.

This is the first time Vietnamese and international pupils could be able to take part in the online mathematic contest called Global ViOlympic. Through the contest, the pupils in the age 9 to 15 from 35 different countries such as Mongolia, Australia, Indonesia, USA, Arab Saudi, etc. were able to sign up for accounts and take the online exam. Over 32,000 pupils registered for the contest, 3,800 students out of whom entered the finals.

For the past eight years, ViOlympic has become an intellectual playground reaching international level. Joining the contest, the pupils not only practice their knowledge, problem solving skills, but also have the opportunity to exchange and learn skills with friends at home and abroad. A lot of teams have been established. Students from some provinces such as Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Yen Bai in tough economic circumstances still participated in the contest and won the top prizes.

"Co-hosting the online mathematics contest for 8 years, we feel proud to have contributed to nurturing and developing global citizens by combining mathematics, information technology and foreign language in an intellectual playground. Thereby, Vietnamese youths have access to a new mode of education. The online mathematic contest - Violympic has been hosted by FPT University – FPT Corporation with the support from Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training since 2008. So far, the contest has attracted nearly 21 million registered users including junior and senior grades in Vietnam elementary education system. Participants must complete the previous rounds to enter the final round.

After the ceremony of the North region in Hanoi on May 14, the similar events will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on May 21 and Da Nang May 28.
