The "Following in Dien Bien's Footsteps" program, organized by FPT Corporation, VnExpress, and Hope Foundation, features a range of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. These activities aim to honor the heroic land through community support initiatives, particularly benefiting students in disadvantaged areas. Additionally, the program seeks to uphold the tradition of patriotism, instilling a sense of remembrance and gratitude among employees and the younger generation.
The program takes place from April 26th to 28th, featuring various activities such as incense offering ceremonies to commemorate martyrs, the inauguration of a new school facility, the handover of another newly painted school building, the presentation of an electronic library, and the inauguration of a public sanitation project. Notable participants in the program include leaders from Dien Bien province and its departments, branches, and agencies, as well as leaders from Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien Dong district, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.
On the morning of April 27th, the group, consisting of 100 leaders and staff from FPT Corporation, Hope Foundation, VnExpress, and 100 students from Dien Bien Provincial Ethnic Boarding School, conducted a solemn procession. They carried a large flag and paid their respects by offering incense at the Martyrs Temple at Dien Bien Phu Battlefield, followed by a visit to the historic A1 Hill relic, which holds significance as it witnessed some of the fiercest battles fought by the soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army.
The activity aims to commemorate the contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap - the revered leader of the Vietnam People's Army, and the heroic martyrs - the nation's exemplary sons and daughters, who dedicated their utmost efforts, blood, and sacrifice to secure the Dien Bien Phu Victory - a shining golden milestone in our nation's history. Inheriting the legacy of the previous generation, the members of the group pledge to perpetually contribute and donate toward further enriching, beautifying, and civilizing our country.
On this occasion, the organizing committee also conducted a series of inauguration events and project handovers for students, teachers, and residents of Dien Bien. One notable project is a complex of public facilities, including a café counter and restroom facilities (separate for men, women, and people with disabilities), which is a first in Dien Bien and is situated opposite the City Square. Designed to blend harmoniously with nature, the project features bamboo materials covering the exterior of the building. The rooftop balcony is a resting area with chairs, providing a vantage point to relax, enjoy refreshments, and observe the street from above.
A similar public works complex, featuring a design inspired by the FPT logo, is anticipated to be finalized at May 7 Square in June. In addition to the previously sponsored free Wi-Fi (FPT-DienBienPhu-Free), this new project further enhances Dien Bien's appeal as an attractive and civilized destination for tourists, especially as the number of international visitors continues to rise steadily.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien Phu City, said: "Recognizing the significance of historical tourism, the People's Committee of Dien Bien Phu City acknowledges that public works complexes are a genuine and vital requirement for both residents and tourists. However, many construction projects cannot be implemented simultaneously due to resource constraints. After nearly a month of construction, the public works complex in the Dien Bien Phu City Square has been completed and is ready to serve residents and tourists on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. We look forward to continued attention from leaders at all levels and the generous support of FPT Corporation, Hope Foundation, and VnExpress to enable us to implement more meaningful projects in the future."
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien Phu City
Ms. Truong Thanh Thanh, a member of the FPT Founding Council and Director of Social Responsibility at FPT Corporation, said: "Today, these public complexes belong to the city; they are no longer affiliated with FPT or the Hope Foundation. We encourage continued attention to ensure that we not only have the first toilet but also many more to welcome international visitors. Following our collaboration with the French embassy on the "Light Path" project, we will strive to provide further guidance and support to create signposts for the city."

In the realm of education, the group, in collaboration with the HCM Communist Youth Union Central Committee, inaugurated two preschool classrooms equipped with enclosed toilets, catering to 80 predominantly Hmong students at Ban Xa Vua B Kindergarten in Phinh Giang commune, Dien Bien Dong district. Previously, these classrooms were temporary structures made from corrugated iron and wooden boards, causing discomfort during hot summers and posing safety risks in the rainy season. Introducing these new, sturdy buildings has brought great joy to the students attending school and renewed motivation for the teachers.
On the same day, three newly painted schools were handed over to nearly 200 teachers and students in Dien Bien Dong district (two schools) and Pa Khoang commune, Dien Bien Phu city (one school). These sturdy structures had suffered from fading and damage over time and were funded for repair and painting to ensure spacious and clean environments. Additionally, three electronic libraries were provided to three elementary schools, aiming to offer over 750 students the opportunity to access knowledge through an online platform, thereby enhancing search activities and improving learning quality. Each library includes 15 tablets and headphones, as well as Math - Vietnamese - English learning accounts for Grade 2 to Grade 5. Furthermore, the delegation donated various teaching and learning support devices for schools in Dien Bien, including computers, printers, and wardrobes for blankets and clothes.
Representatives of FPT Corporation brought gifts and learning equipment. Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, the CEO of FPT, shared with the attending students: "Recently, in collaboration with the leaders of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province, FPT Corporation has proposed the establishment of FPT University in Dien Bien. We hope you will become the new students, the first batch of students of FPT University in the future. During my business trips abroad to large corporations, I often meet many young people from all ethnic groups in Vietnam, just like you. We firmly believe that you, as Vietnamese, will make significant contributions to the international IT landscape. We always keep our doors open to welcome you to join FPT, bringing Vietnamese talent to the global stage!"
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa - CEO of FPT
"Following in Dien Bien's Footsteps" is among the community initiatives spearheaded by the Hope Foundation in Dien Bien since 2021. The total funding allocated for projects and works from 2021 to 2024 surpasses 10 billion VND. Previously, in Muong Nhe district, five school sites and 29 school toilets were constructed. In May, the project, in collaboration with the French Embassy, will witness the launch of the first information boards in three languages (French, English, and Vietnamese). These boards aim to introduce monuments and locations related to the battle's progression 70 years ago, enabling visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Dien Bien Phu victory.
During this occasion, leaders from FPT Corporation and the Hope Foundation engaged in a working session with leaders from Dien Bien province and local departments to discuss forthcoming digital transformation and education development projects in the region. Concurrently, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province presented a certificate of merit to the Hope Foundation in recognition of its contributions to the province's sustainable development.
The Hope Foundation was established in 2017 as a non-profit social fund dedicated to serving the community. It is jointly operated by VnExpress Newspaper and FPT Corporation.
