FPT Corporation and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) recently held a high-level conference focused on digital transformation. The goal was to explore advanced technological solutions to enhance safety and efficiency in VATM's operations while supporting sustainable development amidst the complex challenges facing the aviation industry.
At the conference, the two sides openly discussed the challenges and needs of VATM alongside the technological capabilities of FPT Corporation to address these requirements.
The digital transformation conference between Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation and FPT Corporation
The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), under the Ministry of Transport, is tasked with overseeing flight operations across Vietnam's entire sovereign airspace, territorial waters, and all airports and airfields nationwide. With a service area covering nearly 1.2 million km² and spanning almost 30 provinces and cities, VATM plays a crucial role in ensuring flight safety and efficiency, particularly in the East Sea region.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, General Director of VATM, the organization operates in five main areas: Air Traffic Management; Aeronautical Information Services; Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS); Search and Rescue; and Aeronautical Meteorology. However, the core mission entrusted by the Party and the State remains flight operations, particularly within CNS. As a result, VATM is dedicated to advancing and enhancing quality in this sector, with a strong focus on digital transformation to boost operational efficiency and ensure absolute information security.
Aviation is one of the most technologically advanced industries and has been at the forefront of digital transformation since the digital revolution began. However, the rapid surge in commercial flights is creating significant challenges for aviation safety and security. On July 18, 2024, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), airlines project that total passenger traffic will double over the next two decades from 4.3 billion passengers last year, with the Asia-Pacific market leading this growth.
“Currently, VATM manages 36 international routes and 35 domestic routes, including some of the highest-density routes globally, ensuring absolute safety for every aircraft taking off and landing in Vietnam's airspace,” Mr. Long emphasized regarding VATM's demanding mission.
In this context, advancing digital transformation is not just a choice but a necessity for enhancing safety and efficiency. This is especially true for leading organizations like Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), which has a critical role in managing and operating national air traffic.
Recognizing the industry's unique challenges and VATM's need for digital transformation to enhance information security, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Corporation, stated: "VATM operates in a highly specialized field with significant political importance. From a corporate governance perspective, FPT is well-positioned to support VATM in achieving effective digital transformation, ensuring operational safety and top-level information security."
Mr. Khoa offered the following insights: "VATM and FPT share a history of early integration, which has driven both organizations to meet global standards and enhance quality. FPT is prepared to partner with VATM to leverage digital transformation to address complex challenges, ensure information security, and foster a digital culture among employees. This includes applying AI solutions to boost productivity, alleviate resource strain, and implement systems for streamlining operations, paperless offices, IoT monitoring, and data management. With our experience in aviation and logistics and track record in global digital transformation combined with VATM's expertise, we can collaboratively develop innovative solutions and deliver significant value."
Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, General Director of VATM, and Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT, posed for a commemorative photo marking the conference's success.
Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of VATM, endorsed Mr. Khoa's views and expressed optimism about a collaborative future with FPT. He emphasized the need for FPT's support in training to enhance technological capabilities and in developing solutions to improve management, safety, and security. "While our flight management currently utilizes advanced global technologies, we still rely on foreign suppliers. We hope FPT can assist in researching and developing domestic technological solutions and equipment to potentially replace or complement existing foreign technologies," Mr. Minh remarked.
Mr. Ho Sy Tung, Deputy General Director of VATM, acknowledged FPT's technological expertise and shared a significant concern of the VATM's leadership team. He emphasized that the biggest challenge in digital transformation is effectively addressing the human element, as the core of digital transformation is to benefit and serve people. "Training all staff to understand and embrace digital transformation is crucial for us. We have even established a training fund for this purpose. We hope that alongside implementing specific technological solutions, FPT IS can assist VATM in providing comprehensive and practical training on digital transformation for our entire organization," Mr. Tung expressed.
At the discussion, FPT experts shared their insights on digital transformation, including their methodology, experience, and the FPT ecosystem of products and solutions. Mr. Le Hung Cuong, Deputy CEO of FPT Digital, provided a detailed presentation on the FPT Digital Kaizen methodology. He outlined how digital transformation can revolutionize airport operations and discussed IT architecture designed to help businesses manage IT applications and infrastructure effectively. Mr. Cuong also highlighted the typical "Digital Transformation Trap," where businesses often deploy applications piecemeal without changing their underlying thinking, awareness, or operational models. The FPT Digital Kaizen methodology, combining theory and practice, aims to guide businesses in developing a robust digital transformation roadmap. This approach offers comprehensive solutions to critical challenges through targeted digital initiatives. Mr. Cuong emphasized that the success of digital transformation hinges not just on technology but also on human resources and cultivating a robust digital culture within the organization.
Senior leaders of VATM and FPT
Mr. Vu Minh Quang, Deputy Director of Enterprise Solution Consulting at FPT IS, introduced several of FPT's standout technology products and solutions tailored for VATM, aiming to enhance operational efficiency. These include: FPT.iHRP - A human resource management system designed to streamline HR processes; FPT.eInvoice - An e-invoice solution for efficient invoice management; FPT SPro - A solution for administrative procedure and process management; FPT Cloud - A cloud computing platform offering flexible data storage and management, along with infrastructure services.
Following the conference, both parties will concentrate on specific collaboration and exchange activities. The goal is to support VATM in achieving its critical mission and advancing its sustainability objectives.
