FPT Chairman: ‘Vietnam will emerge as a strong contender in the global tech talent landscape’

(Chinhphu.vn) - The world is undergoing three significant transformations: Technology, AI, and green transformation. In this landscape, data is set to become a valuable currency. With its growing tech ecosystem, Vietnam is poised to become a global hub for technology talent.

This point was highlighted by FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh at FPT Techday 2024, Vietnam's largest annual international technology forum, held on November 13-14.

Reflecting on the global landscape, Mr. Binh emphasized that while the future remains uncertain, the critical question is: How can we shape the future?

Mr. Binh identified three key transformations driving change for Vietnam and the tech industry: digital transformation, green transformation, and AI transformation. Data will increasingly be seen as a valuable currency in this evolving context.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh believes that Vietnam is poised to become a global hub for technology talent, and he is confident that the country will achieve this goal. He pointed out that history has already shown the rise of Vietnamese talent in the tech sector.

"Vietnam will be a stable destination in this context, as Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has affirmed, the country remains a safe and stable choice amid the geopolitical storm," Mr. Binh emphasized.
Reflecting on the past, he recalled that 25 years ago, when FPT and other Vietnamese tech companies began to make their mark globally through software exports, there were around half a million software engineers in Vietnam. He believes that the country will have millions of semiconductor and AI engineers in the future.

However, to move forward, Mr. Binh acknowledged that businesses face numerous challenges.

One key factor for adapting to future needs is international cooperation, which is crucial for ensuring business continuity and leveraging resources from global partners.

He also emphasized the importance of AI, stating that businesses must embrace this technology to modernize their operations. AI, he pointed out, allows firms to save costs at every stage of their processes.

AI brings great success

For FPT, AI has been a key driver of success. One notable example is a U.S.-based transportation company that selected FPT from over 200 software providers because of its AI-driven approach, from deployment to maintenance. By leveraging AI, FPT helped the customer significantly reduce costs and improve efficiency. Recently, FPT secured a 225 million USD contract with a US client driven by its AI applications.

FPT has made substantial investments in AI factories in Vietnam and Japan and has established AI studios to support clients in processing data and training models for continuous machine learning development.

Internally, FPT fosters AI innovation by integrating it into the company culture. Each quarter, AI initiatives are discussed in meetings, with all departments required to explore AI applications to optimize performance.

To nurture AI talent for both Vietnam and the global market, FPT is expanding its training system and incorporating AI into educational curriculums, from elementary schools to universities.

FPT Techday 2024, which attracted nearly 10,000 registrants and participants, including representatives from 500 global enterprises, helped further cement Vietnam's position on the global digital technology map.
