2 FPTers among 10 pioneers who led the internet charge in Vietnam

On November 22, the Viet Nam Internet Association (VIA) has announced the list of the most influential people and businesses contributing to the internet’s development in Viet Nam at Internet Day 2017 and the anniversary ceremony held to mark 20 years of the internet in Viet Nam. FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh and Editor-in-chief of VnExpress Thang Duc Thang are among 10 pioneers who led the internet charge in Vietnam while FPT Telecom and FPT Online are among the top enterprises which have great impact on the development of the internet over the past decade.
The 10 most influential people playing a significant role in the development of the internet in the past 20 years include Truong Gia Binh – FPT Chairman, Thang Duc Thang - Editor-in-chief of VnExpress, Nguyen Trung Chinh – Chairman of CMC Corporation, Tran Manh Hung – Chairman of Viet Nam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), Nguyen Manh Hung – General director of the military-run telecom group Viettel, Nguyen Tu Quang – Chairman of BKAV Technology Group, Le Hong Minh – Chairman of VNG Corporation, Vu Hoang Lien – Chairman of Viet Nam Internet Association (VIA), Le Nam Thang – Former deputy minister of Information and Communications and Mai Liem Truc – Former deputy minister of Post and Telematics.

This is the second time that FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh has been honoured as one of the most influential people on the Internet's development in Vietnam. Being honoured on the tenth anniversary of Internet access in Viet Nam, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh has been selected as an influential person for the next 10 years. He is one of two individuals to be among the list for the second time in a row, besides former deputy minister of Post and Telematics Mai Liem Truc.
In 1988, Mr. Truong Gia Binh and 12 other scientists founded FPT Corporation. Under his leadership, FPT has become Vietnam's leading information and communications technology group which gets involved in both Internet services and digital content.
"20 years ago, the Internet opened up a new living space - a digital space for each person. The Internet helped Vietnam get out of IT isolation from the world. Today, the Internet is the infrastructure platform of Industry 4.0. There are very big opportunities for businesses," said Mr. Binh.
Mr. Thang Duc Thang joined FPT and founded VnExpress in 2001. Under his leadership, VnExpress quickly became the most read Vietnamese newspaper. There are 46 million regular users, contributing 15.8 billion page views a year. VnExpress publishes an average of 500 news and articles. 95% of them are written by versatile journalists using the multi-platform editing tool of the publications.
FPT Telecom (Internet) and FPT Online (Digital content) are among the top enterprises which have great impact on the development of the internet over the past decade.
