FPT representative highlights semiconductor and AI potential at Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts

On August 22, 2024, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 4th World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese. During this event, the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts featured representatives from FPT Corporation, who shared insights on semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI).

Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS and FPT Semiconductor, participated in the discussion titled "Overseas Vietnamese Contributing Ideas to the Development of the Semiconductor Industry in Vietnam." He engaged with experts and engineers from the US, Japan, and Korea with extensive semiconductor field experience.

Mr. Tran Dang Hoa highlighted Vietnam's potential to advance in the global semiconductor supply chain: "Vietnam has the chance to become a leading player if it integrates into the global semiconductor supply chain. This presents a significant opportunity for FPT and other companies involved in chip design and manufacturing in Vietnam. With over ten years of experience in semiconductor research and development, FPT holds strong expectations for the growth of this industry."

Mr. Tran Dang Hoa noted that several Asian countries with similar cultural backgrounds, such as Vietnam, have found success in the semiconductor industry. These include Korea, Taiwan, China, and South Korea. He hoped that Vietnam would be the next country to make its mark in global semiconductor history.

Drawing from his practical experience, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa highlighted that Vietnamese people possess remarkable qualities such as diligence and perseverance. He also noted their intense passion for science, particularly in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. According to him, Vietnam boasts many renowned professors and experts in semiconductors, and this robust human resource base is a significant advantage as Vietnam joins the global semiconductor supply chain.

Mr. Tran Dang Hoa emphasized, "As businesses and countries invest in Vietnam, they need top-notch human resources. Companies require newly graduated engineers to perform basic tasks and experts for specialized roles. To meet this demand, we need professional training facilities to prepare tens of thousands of individuals to match the qualifications of international standards. This is crucial for our success."

In the discussion "Overseas Vietnamese Contribute Ideas to the Development of High Technology," Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van, Head of the AI Research Department at FPT Software, highlighted Vietnam's potential in AI.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van analyzed the rapidly growing global AI market, noting that, according to Gartner, it is projected to hit 135 billion USD by 2025. The market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.1%, up from 14.4% in 2021, outpacing the overall software industry growth. In Vietnam, the AI sector is also advancing quickly, with increased research and development, active involvement from significant businesses, and strong government support, leading to AI applications across various industries.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van shared: "FPT is working with top AI experts like Mila and Landing AI, and we've developed a comprehensive AI curriculum for students from grades 1 to 12, created by Dr. Andrew Ng, one of the most influential figures in AI. We recently partnered with Nvidia to invest 200 million USD in building the AI Factory. These initiatives aim to advance our platforms, products, and solutions and provide Vietnamese youth opportunities to study and work in the AI industry."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van emphasized that Vietnam's young, skilled workforce is a significant advantage for AI development. The country boasts a large pool of talented individuals who excel in natural sciences, particularly mathematics and are known for their dedication and hard work. This strong talent base attracts foreign companies and organizations to invest in Vietnam. Ms. Van sees the establishment of AI departments by international firms such as Grab and Cartrack and those from Silicon Valley like DataXight, Murror, GotIt, and Aitomatic as a promising sign for the future of AI in Vietnam.

Experts and speakers at the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts praised the contributions of FPT. The Forum provided a platform for domestic experts to understand global trends in semiconductors, AI, and strategic investments in high technology by Vietnamese businesses. It also offered a valuable opportunity for FPT experts to engage with overseas Vietnamese experts, support national development, encourage investment from the Vietnamese diaspora, and broaden the national innovation network.
